I have spent years as a Substitute Teacher and am seeking to expand on my teaching experience by branching out into private tutoring. Whereas my specialty is in Social Studies, I have 8 years of experience as a Substitute Teacher in which I taught all subjects to all grades. I love the art of teaching and learning and love my students as well. In my experience, subject matter expertise kicks in at the 10th grade level. For ninth grade and below any educated person knows the subjects, it is more a matter of how effective you are as a teacher, and how much you care about the students. I have a proven record of being able to specialize at the 10th grade and above level, and generalize at the lower level. For High School Social Studies I have designed taught and tested entire units on less than a weeks notice. Additionally, I have had long term assignments teaching Language Arts and Business. In Languate Arts, I have walked into a classroom where the stuents were half way through a book, and I finished it before they did, and I was able to explain and teach it to them. I have done the same with Middle School and Elementary School in all subjects including Math and Science. Whereas I was ultimately successful in education I was not as successful in my early and middle years and understand and empathize with students who are struggleing. With yonger students it is very important to establish a positive atitude about education at the earliest possible time. You do that by showing as an adult you care about the student and help them succeed. For middle school students it is a matter of establishing structure discipline and routine. High School students should be provided with a structue an given the opportunity to succeed through their own efforts. All students should be rewarded when they succeed.
In addition to my teaching credentials, I am an extroverted and sociable person to whom students generally like and relate. Not every teacher and student are a perfect match, but I have mush to offer the right students. If as a student you feel I am the right match for you, or if a a parent you believe I am the right match for you son or daughter please request my services. I would like to help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
