I enjoy working as a tutor because I understand how important it is for students to be academically prepared during middle and high school in order to be successful in college and beyond.
I currently work as Mental Health Counselor, helping people make positive changes in their lives. I meet with children and families at a community mental health agency and at several schools in the Seattle area.
Prior to working as a counselor, I worked at a college preparatory program designed to help high school students succeed in school. I tutored students on various subjects, organized college tours, and assisted them in the college application and financial aid process.
I earned a Master's Degree in Developmental Psychology in 2008. While in graduate school, I worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of California. I helped teach college-level courses on Psychology and Latin American Studies.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Washington in 2004, and during my time as a student there, I was a Spanish tutor for several college students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was first introduced to salsa dancing in 2001 while participating in a study abroad program to Costa Rica. I fell in love with Latin dance and have been enjoying it ever since! After returning to the United States, I continued practicing my technique, learning to dance On 1 and On 2 (mambo style).
In addition to salsa, I am also available to teach merengue and bachata dance.
