Hello, and welcome to my tutoring profile.

My educational qualifications include a M.S. in physics from UC Riverside as well as a B.S. in physics with a specialization in astrophysics from UC San Diego.

My experience as a teacher at the college level includes two

Andrew assisted my son in understanding concepts in AP Statistics. He was having having a great deal of difficulty understanding the subject matter, it just wasn't making sense. But after meeting with Andrew for only 1 lesson, the concepts became much clearer. Andrew has excellent communication skills and was able to quickly summarize my son's learning style, make him feel comfortable and give him the help he needed. Instead of dreading his upcoming quiz, he has much more confidence and is looking forward to the opportunity to utilize what he has learned. I highly recommend him. Thank you Andrew!

Andrew gathered information ahead of time to ensure he was familiar with the topics, brought a white board for visual assistance and was very clear in his explanations.

I was confused about how to solve some problems and Andrew walked me step by step through them. I had a great experience!

Andrew is a great tutor. He helped to build my daughter's confidence in physics and chemistry. Was always available as needed. Thanks!

Andrew was great, he was always able to come meet me at the library. I never had a problem reaching him, and I did well in my Calculus class. Thanks.

Andrew is a great tutor. He is very patient and helped me to not only understand specific concepts. He helped me to improve my whole thinking process in Math.

My son was struggling with pre-cal until we hired Andrew. He is patient, kind and is able to break down difficult concepts for understanding. His easy going, professional attitude is noteworthy. His experience and knowledge is evident in his tutoring strategies and techniques. My son has improved his grade and we are very thankful we found Andrew!

From the beginning Andrew has been accessible when needing to communicate. Always answering emails, texts, and phone calls very timely. He even called after a session to let my son know that he needed to correct a problem they had worked on. My son has gained great confidence in his chemistry with Andrew's assistance. While we initially needed him for Chemistry, he also helped my son with Trig.

I highly recommend Andrew as a knowledgeable and reliable tutor.

I cannot say enough about the positive experience my sixteen year old daughter had with Andrew. He is, first of all, a true professional. He takes his job very seriously and really takes time to understand not just what the student needs help with but how the student best learns. Andrew is patient and thorough, yet my daughter said she never felt "dumb". She said he made it easy to ask questions or voice any concerns. Andrew was excellent at finding out my daughter's weaker spots and making them solid. Andrew never rushes the lesson and makes sure each and every concept is understood. My daughter did amazing on both her makeup tests and the trig final. If you are looking for a fabulous math tutor, Andrew is your man!

Andrew was great. He was very patient in explaining the basic concepts. He helped me arrive to the answers on my own by walking me through the steps, letting me try it, and correcting my errors in thinking before I got to the end of the problem. He was very helpful and I feel like I can use the concepts he taught on my next homework assignments.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra (I) topics I tutor include numbers systems, number sets, arithmetic operators, scientific notation, inequalities, compound inequalities, linear equations in one variable, absolute value, graphing on the real number line, the Cartesian coordinate system, graphing linear equations, systems of two equations, exponents(powers), roots(radicals), polynomials, quadratics, and word problems.

Algebra (II) topics I tutor include polynomials, factoring polynomials, polynomial division, quadratic equations in one variable, inequalities in two variables, systems of three equations, matrices, logarithms, sequences and series, discrete functions, and complex numbers.

I tutor basic C programming. I learned C programming at UCSD taking MAE9 which is C programming for scientists and engineers. I also used C programming to process data during a 6 month theoretical astrophysics research project. I have ready-to-go C programming problem sets for students to work through to learn the basics of C.

I have experience using differential equations and partial differential equations to solve undergraduate problems in computational and thermal physics. If you have a question about differential equations or partial differential equations, I am positive I can show you how to solve it.

Geometry topics I tutor include polygons, plane geometry, solid geometry, and high-dimensional solids.

I have experience using linear algebra to solve problems as small as simple sets of equations and as complex as problems in undergraduate quantum mechanics at UCSD. If you have a question about linear algebra, I am positive I can show you how to solve it.

I have been using Linux for about three years as the default operating system on a dual boot computer. I have experience with a handful of flavors including ubuntu, mandriva, and debian. I am familiar with common operations and advanced system settings. I am also familiar with many command line functions as well as how to manually install programs that are not prepackaged .rpm or .deb files.

I have been using Windows since Windows 95. I currently use Windows XP on a dual boot computer next to Linux. I am familiar with everything from installation of Windows to everyday operations, as well as more advanced tasks such as editing the registry.

I tutor high school (AP) and college level physics. High school level topics I tutor include kinematics, forces, friction, inclined planes, tension, pulleys, energy, work, electrostatics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and wave motion. College level topics I tutor include astrophysics, classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, special relativity, statistical mechanics, optics, and wave phenomena.

Prealgebra topics I tutor include basic operations, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, measurements, perimeter, area, squares, cubes, and variables.

Precalculus topics I tutor include functions, function manipulation (shifting, stretching, and reflections), exponents, logarithms, polynomials, matrices, polar coordinates, spherical coordinates, complex numbers, conic sections, and vectors.

Trigonometry topics I tutor include cosine, sine, tangent, law of sines, law of cosines, double-angle formulas, half-angle formulas, trigonometric addition formulas, secant, cosecant, and cotangent.
