My name is Katherine and I am a new Seattle resident who simply loves teaching. While working on my Washington State Certification, I continue to teach and put the things I learn into practice. If you are looking for an effective, enthusiastic and professional tutor, please consider my qualifications.
I have had seven years of English/ESL classroom experience abroad and have taught students from age 6 to 60. My teaching experience includes TOEFL prep, English conversation, public speaking, business writing, grammar and much more. I also have 3 and a half years of experience in developing custom curricula for my clients. In addition, I have TEFL certification in progress. I graduated from Smith College in 1998 with majors in Economics and History and am quite knowledgeable in these fields. In fact, I was an economics tutor in university.
As a teacher and tutor, I have always been able to connect with my students and I have the patience to work with them until the subject or skill is mastered. Learning is not a passive experience and I do expect a lot of work from my students. In return, my students can be confident that I have also given 100%. It's good to see that David is getting more confidence. Even though he needs to improve a lot in his school work, Katherine knows how he can get there. I hope he can graduate from ESL class this semester.
I haven't had a tutor take so much time getting to know our needs and wishes. The effort was much appreciated!
She was very useful to me in preparing for interview questions and being more understandable. We practiced some behavioral questions and pronunciations.
Katherine B has been our tutor for one hour per week for the past 4 weeks. As a result of her ability to calmly connect with my son and set firm expectations in preparations for their meetings, we have had consistently improving grade performance. And most importantly, my son is enjoying Geometry. His teacher has commented several times in the past month about his classroom participation. He has definitely become a more confident student in math. Thank you very much Katherine for your work!

She is very patient with the student so you always feel comfortable and confident at her classes. We definitely recommend Katherine to anybody who would like to make a significant and fast progress in English and to get much better in everyday conversation.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
