Hello! I'm Jordan, a professionally trained tutor with over 500 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience. I work with students of all ages from middle schoolers to college students and adults. My primary areas of focus are high school & college math and physics, including strategies to improve executive functioning. I am also available for writing tutoring and have helped numerous students successfully apply for scholarships and fellowships including the NSF GRFP, the Barry Goldwater, and the Fulbright.
I graduated valedictorian from the University of Puget Sound in 2018 with degrees in math and physics, after which I trained, mentored, and supervised a staff of 25 tutors as the Peer Tutor Coordinator at the campus tutoring center where I previously tutored physics and writing for three years. Currently, I'm pursuing my PhD in Experimental Physics at the University of Washington.
Our emotional relationship to academics and our performance in school have a profound impact on our opportunities later in life. As a tutor, one of my core goals is to help students find joy in learning and develop a confidence in their abilities that can flourish into a lifelong sense of agency.
In college, I tutored for the University of Puget Sound mathematics department, primarily focusing on algebra, calculus, and linear algebra. Many students have strong, negative feelings about math, and this dynamic creates an additional barrier between students and success. Having majored in math and physics not so long ago, I get how frustrating math can be, as well as how rewarding it is to figure out tough problems! I leverage this understanding to help students develop a growth mindset to approach math as a challenging puzzle, not a reflection of their intelligence.
If you think that I may be a good fit for you and are interested in talking more, please reach out to me. Tutoring has been one of my lifelong passions, and I would love to work with you!
