Northern Arizona University
Hello, my name is Mark. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy. I have tutoring experience in Latin vocabulary, syntax and grammar in reading, writing and oral form. The student I tutored was placed in an advanced Latin class when he enrolled in school the following year.
I've had a passion for astronomy since childhood. I'm fascinated by extrasolar planets, astrobiology and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, to the point where I've been inspired to begin my own sci-fi series. If any student has a similar passion for astronomy, I would be pleased to help you cultivate a love and knowledge of this awe-inspiring science.
Perhaps the most valuable lesson I learned from my first experience as a tutor was that the benefits were mutual. While the student's Latin proficiency was being honed, my own proficiency in the language was being reinforced as well. I hope to provide the same benefit to any student who is looking to excel. I've had a passion
Mark helped our kid with math a lot. He is very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We'd recommend Mark to anyone who is looking for a tutor for kids. Thank you so much!
My son had his first session with Mark and it went great. Mark did a very nice job explaining to my son the objectives and how he could help him improve his math and language art skills. The connection was a success as my son was against using a tutor but after working with Mark he felt it would help him and he enjoyed it.
Mark is a great tutor. He is very kind and patient with my 15-year old son who needs some help with literature and math. His organized, thoughtful approach has helped my son considerably. My son really enjoys talking to and learning from him. I started to see my son being more confident and motivated to study after a few lessons. That's also reflecting favorably in his grade. Mark truly cares about his students and we are so grateful for his teaching. Thank you Mark!
Mark has been a great fit for our son. He is calm, patient and methodical in his assessment of what our son needs to work on to improve in his math. I would recommend Mark as a very proficient tutor.
Mark has been working with our 8th grade son for about six weeks in the area of Spanish, Algebra and English. Mark understands what my son is doing, provides excellent over sight,is thorough and very patience. When I asked my son what he likes best about Mark he stated, "He reviews my homework, explains what I did wrong and then reviews it again once I correct it. Mark has also reviewed my English papers and helps me with my grammar and spelling." When there is extra time Mark and my son have the opportunity to speak in Spanish so my son can get some extra practice. Thanks Mark, we highly recommend you to other students.
Mark has been a fantastic tutor to my 14 year old son. He is so patient with him and is teaching him about science and math and getting my son to finally understand the concepts. My son has become more confident in his classes and is finally smiling again. Mark is very polite, professional and always on time for our tutoring lessons. He is also always willing to work with my schedule as I am a single parent with a full time job that isn't always 9-5.
I would highly recommend Mark H. as a tutor for your son or daughter.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am competent in algebra concepts and problem-solving techniques and would be happy to help your student gain a greater understanding of them.
Astronomy has been my lifelong passion, to the point where I obtained a B.S. degree in physics & astronomy. I am fascinated by the prospects of other worlds and alien intelligences and would love to work on the search for extrasolar planets, SETI, and/or a NASA robotic mission to an outer moon of our solar system. I hope to inspire this same awe of the universe in others.
I attended a private Christian school (K-12) that placed strong emphasis on Bible study/knowledge and daily application. My experience with Bible-oriented classes is extensive, ranging from Christian Studies to Spiritual Disciplines to Apologetics. I regularly attended a weekly Bible study during my college career; I have read the Bible from cover to cover and study it daily.
Geology is one of my secondary passions after astronomy. I would be pleased to work to improve students' comprehension of geology and its related subjects, from plate tectonics to volcanology to the structure of the Earth's interior.
I took a Conceptual Physics class and an AP Physics class in high school, and majored in Physics & Astronomy during college. My extensive education in this field allows me to see the world around me through the lens of physics. I would be pleased to provide others with this same perspective, to help them see how physics relates to our everyday lives.
I took four years of Spanish in high school and one year in college. I can help students with Spanish vocabulary, syntax and grammar in reading, writing and oral form.
