Tutoring combines three of my favorite things: Science, teaching, and helping students succeed. I graduated from UCR with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics/Physics in 2015 and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering in 2020. During my time there I served as a tutor and a Supplemental Instruction (kind of like group tutoring) leader. My favorite part about tutoring is seeing students get excited about figuring problems out on their own. Because math and physics tend to be difficult subjects for most, a lot of people give up and settle for average. However, I know that every student can do well in both of these subjects (I've seen it happen), and I want to expose more students to the beauty of math and physics.

During the past seven years, I have tutored children, teenagers, and college students in subjects ranging from elementary school science to college math and physics. Because of this, I know many common pitfalls students fall into and the struggles they face. I have also learned different ways to approach concepts and problems to reach students of all learning styles.

As a research scientist, I have to know algebra, calculus, and linear algebra like the back of my hand - and I do. I excelled in these classes in high school and college, receiving all A's. Math is my first passion, and I am excited to share my knowledge with others. I currently do computational modeling research and have to use math, physics, chemistry, and computer programming on a daily basis in an applied setting, pushing the edges of knowledge beyond what is already known.

Whether you are just trying to pass a class or get into a top university, I will develop a personalized plan to reach your personal goals. I'm looking forward to working with you!

Great Introduction!

My daughter had a lot of anxiety about needing a tutor. Sarah was her first experience with one and she helped her to realize that having a tutor was nothing to be ashamed of. Unfortunately, we only had one lesson with her due to a scheduling change, and wish we could continue, but we are thankful for her great introduction to tutoring and putting my daughter at ease. And she absolutely helped her get a little better understanding of calculus too in that short time.

Quickly evaluated problem solving workflow and assisted

Sarah helped Alec better organize his approach to ANY problem. She made him feel at ease and open to constructive criticism.

Theresa, 3 lessons with Sarah

Very knowledgeable and works great with my daughter.

She is patient and helps me to understand the problems. She goes through each math problem that I have so I fully understand it. Looking forward to our future lessons with her.
