The best way to generate enthusiasm for a subject is for teachers to openly display their passion, which certainly describes me regarding math. In school, I devoured every math course offered and rapidly progressed as high as possible in my secondary school education.

It disheartens me whenever I hear students complain that "math is too hard" or that they see no practical purpose. The faults lie in how the curriculum is taught; traditional practices are no longer effective in reaching today's students. Therefore, I engage the student, making it entertaining while not sacrificing content. Any skill requires effort, and I can explain to the student that competency is like exercising any muscle, except this particular one is the "brain muscle." Likewise, I show students the relevance of what they are learning and how it applies to the world. Only then can math be seen as transcending the abstract, becoming a valuable tool in every discipline.

Many great teachers have influenced me, and I wish to become one who positively impacts students, enabling them to reach their full potential. Therefore, I returned to college, completed my B.A. in Mathematics at the UW, obtained my Masters in Teaching from Northwest University, and now teach math at a local high school where I've received a distinguished evaluation.

My tutoring approach is focused on conceptual learning instead of procedural knowledge, as a thorough understanding will enable advancement in mathematics with greater ease.

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have two years of experience teaching Algebra 2 (including last year). While Algebra 1 was all about finding the solution to a problem, Algebra 2 is about finding the "best" solution from among many possible methods. I help my students determine what is "best," either fastest, most efficient, or less prone to errors. Ultimately, I teach students the finer points of critical thinking and problem-solving that will benefit them in the real world they will face after graduation.

Logic,

Logic

I took Logic I during my Senior year at the University of Washington and found it to be one of the most fun classes I have ever taken, and I passed it with a 4.0. I'm fully experienced with both propositional and predicate logic, how to create truth tables for each, and how to prove theorems. Some of these skills were also used in various math classes I previously took, among them Mathematical Proofs and Axiomatic Geometry.

Experienced and helpful

I was really pleased to find Tim to help with my 10th grader's math. My son is pretty bright but tends to lose attention in class and often has difficulty with homework afterwards. We tried a few tutors during the school year, and Tim was the first tutor that my son said was "pretty helpful" right after it ended. Tim did not make assumptions about what the student knew but tried to find his level of understanding and let him work out the second half of the problem. I thought the technique is really effective in helping kids who tend to lose attention in the middle of a problem. Thank you, Tim.

Great Tutor

Deeply knowledgeable, patient and makes it fun for my 13 year old. I would highly recommend Timothy. My son was against having a tutor but now he is engaged and his geometry fundamentals are getting stronger.

Very patient and thorough with explanations

First tutor session with Timothy for my son. My son lacks confidence when it comes to math. Timothy was very patient and went step by step through problems to help my son better understand what he was doing and how he got the answer. After leaving, I asked my son his thoughts and he liked Timothy as well. Have already booked an additional session and plan to continue working with Timothy.
