Hi! I'm David (they/them). Thanks for taking a moment to read my profile. Below you will find info on my background, qualifications, and some of the teaching methodologies I use in my classes.

Background:
I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University in 2014. Since graduating, I have traveled extensively throughout southeast Asia working as a STEM educator teaching engineering, science, and math to students of all ages. My favorite area of interest is mathematics, especially high school and college level math. In early 2020, I relocated back to the US due to the pandemic and am currently located in Redmond, WA (near Seattle).

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program:
I have over six years of experience teaching Math SL and HL topics and I have prepared many students for their final DP Math exam. The final Math SL/HL exam covers topics from Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Vectors, Statistics, Probability, and much more.

Starting in 2020, the IB Math curriculum now includes two branches: Applications and Interpretations (AI) and Analysis and Approaches (AA). I am familiar with material from HL and SL from both of these branches and can provide sample tests for practice. I strongly encourage students to begin regular classes earlier rather than later this year due to the challenges of distance learning as well as the addition of several new topics to this year's curriculum.

Teaching Methodology:

My teaching methodology adapts to the unique needs of each individual student. With that being said, there are a few things that I emphasize in all of my sessions. This is not an exhaustive list by any means but should give students and parents a good idea of what to expect.

1) Active Learning. In my classes I want my students to be talking and engaged as much as possible. When students participate, they learn and remember. When students passively "sit back" and listen, they forget. A great class is when the student is talking

Review (David M.)

Our family so far very much likes working with David. He's on top of what Emmy needs and has also shared concerns with us that the current curriculum at school may not be helpful to Emmys learning. He gave good insight and therefore we're able to look into it and hopefully address concerns. Online learning can be very difficult and for the level of math that Emmy is in and not getting taught to learn is a problem. She must pass this class to be considered for DigiPen with at least a B. David's feedback is essential.
