I am a former 5th grade teacher who taught all subject areas. I have a great deal of experience in working with children of all ages. I am fun-loving and enjoy working with students, especially students who do not enjoy school. My first goal when working with students is to create a rapport with students to ensure that our work together will feel comfortable and fun. I have significant experience with students with ADD/ADHD and feel comfortable with other behavioral needs as well. I emphasize open and honest communication and will work with you and your child to make sure that your child feels successful and confident about his or her academic accomplishments. I am exceptionally qualified to work with students in all subject areas-- my favorites are writing, math, and reading. I work very effectively with all students and will make sure that your student feels successful and that you feel good about the growth your student makes during our tutoring sessions.

Sarah has been really patient and helpful with my son. After two tutoring sessions, I can see good improvement in his writing skills.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked as a 5th grade teacher for 4 years, and I have had 3-5 students with ADD/ADHD each year. I have had to work within the classroom setting to accommodate these students and provide a classroom environment that met their needs. I have also worked in tutoring situations with these students, and I have taken classes about how best to provide education and learning for these students. I feel very comfortable working with students with ADD/ADHD.

I taught 5th grade for 5 years, and math was always my favorite subject. I work with students to understand which concepts they are missing that make the work frustrating, and then we work together to fill in those gaps. I work to make learning a joyful, fulfilling experience for each child.
I have worked with students to teach them how to read, and I have strong skills with decoding skills and letter sounds/phoneme identification. I took several classes specifically geared around phonics when I was in college, and I work with students frequently on their phonics skills. I feel very comfortable working with students of all ages and abilities in this skills.
I taught 5th grade for 5 years and have worked with many, many students who had difficulties spelling. I focus on teaching them rules, helping them make sense of word/spelling patterns, and then find fun ways to apply the new skills.
I have worked as a 5th grade teacher for 4 years. In this capacity, I teach students how to use a planner, how to organize their binders and notebooks, and how to take notes in class. I also communicate effectively about what the organizational system is to parents, so that they can be supportive at home. This makes me very qualified to work with students of all ages on their organizational skills.
I have taught writing as a classroom teacher for five years, and have also worked with many students to teach writing as a tutor as well.
