As stated in my profile title I am a Germany native but have lived in the United States for the past fifteen years. I have a master's degree in German linguistics with a focus on phonetics. This means that I can help you with pronouncing all those tricky words that have a lot more letters than they should. My 5+ years of experience in tutoring allow me to provide tutoring for subjects ranging from vocabulary practice to history and customs. I also offer one time tutoring clinics, proofreading and editing.

The community college where I had been taking continuing education German courses was no longer offering higher level German classes. I had wanted to study with a private tutor for a while, but this pushed me to do it. I wanted a teacher who would focus on my weak areas and give me one-on-one feedback on my pronunciation and spoken grammar. I feel very lucky to have found Stephanie. She is a native speaker and a linguist so I know I'm hearing the correct pronunciation and her knowledge of German grammar is fantastic. She gears every lesson to exactly my questions and level. She loans me German reading materials that are just at my level (or a bit above), and flash cards for new words. She knows a tremendous amount about how adults learn a new language, and uses that both when creating her own materials and when working with me individually.
She is an enthusiastic teacher, and is encouraging. Also, she really knows the way to teach the German endings which I never understood. I am very grateful!
Stephanie always goes beyond. She enjoys helping her students achieve their dreams and gives her time beyond the hour to find solutions.
Thank you for your kind words! It is a joy to work with you, always prepared and eager to improve!
I look forward to lessons in Deutsch with Stephanie. I learn more in a few hours than I would in several days with self-instruction. The lessons are especially helpful for improving conversational German as well as insights in the culture and history of Germany.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It is a joy to work with you!
I am really happy that my instructions inspire you to keep learning German.
Stephanie is not only a native German speaker, but has the education and experience to teach the language in a correct and understandable manner. My son's speaking confidence is getting better and better every week and has been noticed by his high school teacher. Along with this confidence, he is also improving his knowledge of the parts of speech, grammar, and basic sentence structure which is helping him to feel caught up in class. Highly recommend Stephanie as a German tutor!!!
Stephanie is a fantastic tutor: she is attentive, patient, creative, adapts to different learning styles, brings games to make each lesson fun, and is able to adjust the level of the lesson to match my son's progress. He has advanced several levels in a very short time due to Stephanie's methods. I couldn't be happier.
I had a great time learning with you during our lesson. I love the various ways you have for me to learn and I love your attitude. I feel very secure that you are really teaching me and not just giving me a superficial lesson. After this one lesson, I feel confident about learning with you using the base you helped me establish in this first lesson.
Communication has been very easy and smooth with you and I can't wait for our next German lesson!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
