About Melissa

Hello! My name is Melissa, and I'm here to help. I am simply the best tutor around. I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and Spanish from the University of Mississippi, and I've tutored in both subjects since high school. During college, I worked for the Ole Miss Athletics Department as a tutor. My students all received at least one letter grade higher in the subject I tutored them in. I am patient, and I know how to explain concepts in different ways according to the student's learning style.
I taught AP Calculus for 2 years professionally and am currently working on getting formally licensed to teach in public schools. Most of my students received 5s on the AP exam, and almost all received a 3 or higher. I also speak Spanish fluently.
I'd love to help you feel more confident and grow in your understanding of either great subject. I guarantee results.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I was raised in an active Christian home and faithfully attended the AWANA program for 8 years. My parents became missionaries as I was entering high school, and we moved to Ecuador. There I attended the prestigious Alliance Academy International and received a vigorous and well-rounded Christian education. I also taught for 2 years at a Christian high school. I've personally studied the Bible for many, many years and have expert knowledge and experience with it.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am officially certified to teach K-12 in mathematics and Spanish, and I have a Bachelor of Arts in Math and Spanish. I have been professionally tutoring in English, writing, math, Spanish, physics, and general science for several years to various age groups, including elementary students.

Needlework

My grandmother is an expert needleworker. She taught me how to cross stitch when I was in high school, and I've been doing it ever since. I've completed one very large piece, which took me several years, and multiple smaller projects. I am very good and would be a good teacher to someone who is excited to learn.

Precalculus

I taught Precalculus at a private school for 2 years and have been teaching math for the last 5. I have successfully tutored for the last 10.

Study Skills

I am a very organized and attentive person who can quickly adapt to the learning needs of whomever I work with. I have tutored unofficially for about 12 years, and officially for 7 years. I have worked for the University of Mississippi Athletics Department, a local High School, and an an international academy. I've also tutored with WyzAnt for almost 2 years. In all that time, I've been able to hone my tutoring skills and help other students not only learn the subject material, but how to study in general.
