I have two main passions in life. One is creating stunning images that make a statement, be it in motion or still. The second is helping others do the same. In my profession as in life, I try to be in a constant state of learning and one of the most satisfying things is to be able to pass the knowledge along to others.
I have over 30 years of professional experience in broadcast television production as a producer and director, with even longer experience in still photography. In addition, I have always had a passion and talent for teaching. For over 8 years I was the lead instructor for the University of Washington Extension Film and Video Production Certificate Program. I created the curriculum and taught the Introduction to Film and Video Production courses. I am also a father of 3 great kids (all under 10) and experienced in teaching any age group, from Kindergarteners to Seniors.
The way I like to work is to initially meet with every perspective student/group in person to assess their needs and tailor the curriculum to their age, abilities, and specific interests. After preparing the proposed lesson plan (please see the Subject Matter description) we will review the plan together, revise as necessary, and come to an agreement on the approach and timeframe. From there, we are off and running. I look forward to being able to help you take your photography to the next level.

Chris has been great as a tutor: he asks questions and listens well in order to understand what it is I need to learn, and then prepares exactly the right exercises for me to do in each lesson, with his coaching. He knows a huge amount about video production and photography but breaks it down to the simplest, most important things I need to know in order to go to the next step. He obviously loves his subject, and works to make sure that his teaching is on target. Recommended!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
