My interests and work experience work together to make me uniquely qualified to tutor students. I have always loved learning new things, and I am constantly researching new topics and ideas. I am also an extremely creative person who loves to write and create. It is this love of knowledge and creativity that eventually led to my interest in teaching. I wanted to share all of the cool stuff I had learned with others, and what better way to do that than as a high school teacher! I attended Pacific Lutheran University and earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing and a Masters of Education. I have been a teacher at the secondary level for the past 8 years, and as such, I have a huge amount of experience teaching the concepts of reading and writing (and beyond) to teens in grades 9 through 12. My experience and knowledge encompasses both general Language Arts classes and advanced Language Arts classes (AP, Cambridge).
I specialize in tutoring English and all of it’s related areas. Vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing (both creative and informative), and grammar. I have extensive knowledge and experience in preparing students for the standardized state tests that are required for graduation in Washington State. I customize my lessons specifically for each student I tutor, with the goal being to challenge but not overwhelm them, leading to the maximum amount of improvement possible.
I am dedicated to helping all of my students to consistently improve, and as such I am constantly striving to improve as well. I am happy to accept any feedback given, and will gladly work with parents and students to mold our tutoring sessions into something that both of us feel is most beneficial to the student’s learning and improvement. I am an extremely patient person, and have a calm demeanor that helps me adapt to any type of student.
I try to be as flexible as possible with time. I do require at least 12 hours notice if cancelling, but I am happy to offer make-up sessions if a cancellation does come up.
The location of our sessions is completely flexible. I prefer to hold my tutoring sessions in quiet, comfortable locations, where we will experience the least amount of distractions. Libraries are excellent, as well as some coffee shops. I am absolutely happy to travel to a different location that is more convenient for the student.
Please contact me if you’d like to schedule a session or if you have any questions. I am excited to hear from you, and I’m looking forward to helping you improve so that you can reach success in your studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English - Creative Writing, a Masters of Education, and eight years of experience as an English teacher at the high school level. My full-time job is to teach this content every day. All of these things together make me extremely qualified to tutor in this subject area.
