University of Washington (Sociology)
Hello Students! My name is Jennifer and I'm excited to be able to help you with any of your learning needs. I graduated from Elma High School in 2004 with a 4.0 GPA and was valedictorian of my class. During high school, I took several Advanced Placement classes, including Spanish, English and Calculus. I'm one of those rare ones who actually LIKES to study and learn.
I then went on to study at the University of Washington and graduated in 2008 with a 3.6 GPA. My degree was in sociology with a minor in law but I took a variety of classes including history, dance, math, English, astronomy, atmospheric sciences, political science, labor unions, and Spanish, which I can speak and understand semi-fluently.
I have had a lot of experience tutoring over the past few years and have come to love it. I believe that every person has their own study style that works best for them. Some people learn better through drills and memorization, others by hands-on methods, and others by abstract thinking. As a tutor, I will be sure to analyze every students likes, dislikes and study preferences and take those things into account to help the student learn in a fun and exciting way. I believe that every student is unique so there is no "one best way" to teach a subject. I would love the chance to meet you and help you in any way I can and I look forward to hearing from you! Jennifer did a wonderful job. My kids forgot or didn't bring their books home and that was no problem for her. She got the kids going on problems she made up and they actually were the same problems the kids have been working on in school. She got them to warm up to her and got the kids going. My boys really liked her and said she doesn't play around. I would not have any problem recommending her.
After only 3 sessions, my sons seems to grasp his algebra lessons much more easily. I am looking forward to his on going success with Jennifer help.
I met Jennifer B. for the first time last week. My daughter, said she has been patient and understanding. I have purchased more credit to keep her coming. She's been a great help to my daughter's math studies.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been involved with computers since I was in 5th grade, which was in 1996 and have always loved the challenge of figuring them out. I have had experience with both Mac and PC and am well versed in the general use of both of them as well as most of the programs within them. I worked with computers extensively in all four years of high school as well as all four years of college and am confident in my ability to tutor on this subject.
Sociology is my favorite subject to study because it deals with the aspects of life that pertain to so many of us. It is, in my opinion, very important to be educated on the tendencies of different people because with that knowledge, we can be more understanding and less judgmental. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Washington and thus am well versed in the subject, from basic/introductory Sociology to more specific branches such as Criminology and Sociology of Societies.
I have been playing softball since I was seven years old, and still am today at age 24! I would say it is one of my biggest passions. I am confident that I will be able to help your child excel in this sport as I not only love it, but have a thorough knowledge of the rules, techniques, and drills involved. Aside from my knowledge of the sport in general, I am also very good at adapting to different learning techniques, which will make your student feel more comfortable as opposed to pressured to do well. And of course, it is always important to keep things fun, which I strive to do as well.
