About David

I'm a 2014 Chemical Engineering graduate from WSU who graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I've been tutoring since high school and have spent countless hours teaching students everything from introductory chemistry, physics, and algebra through advanced differential equations and organic chemistry. Not only have I tutored these subjects for various employers, from the university chemistry department to the Navy ROTC, I have also worked as a TA and grader for many of the classes I tutor and learned what teachers look for and expect students to learn and demonstrate on exams.

My strength as a tutor comes from my ability to determine where exactly the line is that separates what a student does understand from what they are struggling with, and to help them cross that line. Students often tell me that our time together is the first time that something has actually made clear sense for them rather just being another confusing answer from a professor or TA. My philosophy is that nothing you are learning in high school or college comes out of nowhere. Every scientific subject, whether it's math, chemistry, or physics, has a clear progression. If you are stuck on calculus, then as long as you know addition, I can help you find what piece you are missing in between and help it make sense to you. Not only does this make learning new material easier, it makes it MUCH easier to remember, because not only do you understand where it came from, but if you forget you can re-teach it to yourself!

I also love giving examples of the real world implications of seemingly "useless" topics you cover in school, or tying topics that seem unrelated together. Why is coffee acidic? Did you know that every time you calculate the area of a shape you're really doing calculus? How can we use differential equations to model a zombie apocalypse? (Spoiler I did a whole project on this!)

If you need a tutor to improve your understanding of physics, chemistry, or math, don't hesitate to send me a message so we can start talking!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemical Engineering

I graduated in 2014 with a BS degree in chemical engineering from Washington State University with a 4.0 GPA. I now work as a chemical engineer for an engineering firm. I have tutored for classmates and lower classes and was top of my class. I can furnish a transcript or copy of my diploma if necessary.

Differential Equations

Part of the curriculum of my chemical engineering degree is passing differential equations. I have also worked as a tutor for Diff Eq. students for years. My transcripts (A in Diff Eq) are available upon request.

Linear Algebra

I have earned a 4.0 BS in Chemical Engineering. Part of the curriculum of the degree is passing linear algebra. I have also worked as a tutor for linear algebra students for years. My transcripts (A in Linear Algebra) are available upon request.

Organic Chemistry

I passed two semesters of organic chemistry. I have also worked as a tutor for organic chemistry students for years and worked as a TA and grader for both semesters of O Chem. My transcripts (A's in both O Chem 1 and 2) are available upon request.

David makes sense of chemistry!

We are incredibly grateful to have David come to our home to help our daughter with chemistry. We knew she was frustrated and had so many demands on her time that she was at her wits end. We were unable to be of any help. David has been very professional, always calling to confirm appointments. He works with our daughter on the things she requests and is a genius at chemistry. He is able to explai
