I love learning and teaching. I am currently saving up for graduate school which I hope to attend in the coming year, and I am seriously committed to helping the people I tutor learn as much as they possibly can. I have tutored and been a course assistant for three years while I was finishing my undergraduate degree and am happy to share all that I have learned with anyone interested. I have tutored and been a course assistant for three years while I was finishing my undergraduate degree and am happy to share all that I have learned with anyone interested. Learning has always been a passion of mine and teaching is the natural evolution of that passion. In fact, some say that the best way to learn is to teach! Though I am well versed in a number of subjects I care about history in particular as there is nothing you can do in the world that is devoid of historical context. I believe that by better understanding the nuance and context of other backgrounds we can lead a better life and create a better society. My teaching style is geared towards this training: to best help you i need to understand what you are struggling with, or what doesn't make sense. We have to work out the context of our own situation. I see my role as the tutor as a sort of guide, to help you discover the information and internalize it in a way that is useful, entertaining, and long lasting.

As for my qualifications: I Majored in History at Whitman College (a small, elite liberal arts college in the pacific northwest) where I was offered the chance to write a 75 page thesis which I completed to earn honors in the major. Additionally, I have received a number of grants and fellowships to study history, particularly the classical and medieval worlds. Further, as part of this education I served as a course assistant and a writing fellow to help people write and learn history and philosophy at the collegiate level. Outside of the social sciences and humanities I have taught Math (ranging from kindergarten to algebra 2) in the local school district for two years, where the vast majority of my students saw marked degrees of improvement in their tests and overall understanding of the material.

Knowledgeable and well-prepared tutor

Eli is an incredible young man. He spent time understanding my goals as a learner even before we scheduled a lesson. He is helping me to shape a course that I want to teach young children about diversity, tolerance, and identity rooted in historical context. He has experience with young learners, and it is clear he does quite well with adult learners, as he was able to teach me effectively. He was very kind and also easy to talk to. He was very well-prepared for the session, and was flexible in the course of our discussion. I would highly recommend Eli as a tutor, no matter your age or background knowledge. He has something to offer us all!
