I am a working artist, certified k-12 art teacher and math geek. I teach Illustration, painting, ceramics, geometry, pre-algebra, and algebra. I teach because I enjoy empowering others with learned skills so that they may grow closer to their intended goals. I prefer Clallum, Kitsap, Jefferson, Mason, and Pierce counties or Edmonds since I live in Poulsbo.
The last three years I have worked at Tacoma School of the Arts teaching Illustration and Foundations. I spent a few months there subbing for calculus, pre calculus, and geometry. Though art is my first passion, I am fascinated by math and enjoy the process of doing the problems. There are so many connections in our world between math, art, and nature. I enjoy teaching those connections to students and expressing them visually through artwork.
As an artist I have the ability to visually express various math concepts which enable students to grasp concepts more easily. As a k-12 Visual Arts Teacher my strengths are in illustration, painting, art history, social studies in art, iconography, and positive critique.

My son loves having Michele help him with Algebra II - he is understanding and retaining and even enjoying the subject matter which is a change - happy customers here!!!
Michele was able to teach my daughter concepts in Algebra 2 that her math teacher couldn't help her with. She has a knack for making something that seems so difficult easy to understand. Very flexible with scheduling as well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a WA licensed cosmetologist with 13 years experience in hair and 20 years experience in stage and film makeup. I am a methodical thinker and so teaching theory of cutting hair comes easily as one has to be organized mentally before beginning a hair service. Stage makeup skills include old age for a large hall, as I worked with Pacific Northwest Ballet for two decades, various character makeup, and some special effects for film including black eyes and wounds.
Teaching illustration is a passion of mine, as I enjoy lessons that incorporate the elements of art and principles of design. Effective compositions give a drawing impact which keeps the viewer engaged. Value, line quality, and creation of the illusion of form and light direction are some of the major components of my lesson plans. I would love to see your composition and help you to be more effective as an artist.
Middle math minor and taught precal and geometry for a few months at Tacoma School of the Arts during a long term sub position. I enjoy math.
As a professional artist and certified k-12 art teacher I have the ability to encourage you with your art from your starting point, show you the next level through skill building, and share knowledge about the business world of art. Watercolor is my medium of choice though I can work with acrylics and oil. Just like illustration, composition is a major component of an effective painting. Often times paintings are preceded with a value sketch to determine an effective composition.
My art knowledge includes middle math (grades 5-9) certification, prealgebra, and albegra. During college I achieved the Calculus leveI, as I received an A-. I have successfully taught, at the HS level, Geometry, Calculus, and Pre Calculus. My tutoring experience includes Community College math classes from basic math to Trigonometry.
