I have been in banking and finance for 15 yrs. I presented banking information to various ages of students ranging from kindergarten to high school. What I did was to communicate with the students on their level and tied in information that was pertinent to them and related that to the information that I was discussing. For example, I would ask questions and relate it back to things that the students were interested in like the X-Box, or movies or whatever is important to the students. In...

In addition, I would try and tell stories and share examples to encourage engagement of the students into the lesson.
I am currently working as a substitute teacher for the school district here. I work to follow the host teacher's instructions of what they want to be completed. I do this by working to gain the trust and agreement of the students. How I did this was to use my many years in finance and travel to share stories that I can relate to the task at hand. Many of the students like the stories and it gives me something to gain acceptance by the students for doing their work and they feel like they are receiving a treat. I strongly believe that learning needs to be fun and create an interest in the students. If the students are not interested in learning than it is a lost cause. As a teacher or instructor you need to answer the unstated question of the students which is, "Why should I put forth much effort in learning this information?" I strive to answer these questions, frequently. I have been told by many students that I am their favorite substitute teacher. I feel that is because I am constantly looking for things that the students would be able interested in and that they can relate to. Finally, I have traveled extensively throughout Western Europe and would be able to bring a worldwide view to history and other subjects.

History

American History,

American History

I was interested in World War II history and World War I when I was in 6th Grade. I have always looked at it from the standpoint of how did that affect American life. Additionally, I have had grandfathers that fought in WWII and while they were alive, I would ask them questions about their experiences. It is extremely interesting to see how the different major impacts on history and how that affects the United States.
European History,

European History

I have visited many historical sites in Europe, like Omaha Beach, the Palace of Versailles, London Bridge and the Tower of Pisa. After having visited these places, I felt that I gained a deeper understanding of the historical significance of these places. For example, when I was walking along Omaha Beach, I saw the concrete bunkers and I tried to imagine what it was like for the U.S. soldier to try and land on the beach all under German machine gun fire.
Government & Politics,
