About Michele

Bio

I am a working artist and Certified K-12 Art Teacher. My students learn to draw and paint with a foundation in elements and principles of art. We look at the thought process and trouble shooting involved with composition and painting as part of the creative process. I teach because I enjoy empowering others with learned skills so that they may grow closer to their intended goals.

My experience includes teaching Illustration, Foundations, and a General Art course within the High School. Experience includes teaching mixed grades together K-8. My strengths are teaching self critique in a positive light, artistic confidence, and observational drawing.

Teaching illustration is a passion of mine, as I enjoy lessons that incorporate the elements of art and principles of design. Effective compositions give a drawing impact which keeps the viewer engaged. Value, line quality, and creation of the illusion of form and light direction are some of the major components of my lesson plans. I would love to see your composition and help you to be more effective as an artist.

As a professional artist and certified k-12 art teacher I have the ability to encourage you with your art from your starting point, show you the next level through skill building, and share knowledge about the business world of art. Watercolor is my medium of choice though I can work with acrylics and oil. Just like illustration, composition is a major component of an effective painting. Often times paintings are preceded with a value sketch to determine an effective composition.

I enjoy math. When teaching younger children, using manipulatives such as beans for counting or game pieces to represent various operations, students grasp the ideas in a way that helps them to make deeper connections. These math connections last longer. I am an artist and see in pictures. This ads to my teaching skills.

Amazing teaching ability in Algebra I

Michele has been instrumental in our daughter's ability to understand and apply what she has learned in her Algebra I class this year. She just received an A on her 2nd trimester test! Our daughter has increased confidence in this subject, which has also increased her confidence and performance in all of her other classes. Michele has a variety of ways to help her understand a subject she has had difficulty with. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a tutor that builds a great rapport very quickly with her students, has a calm and positive nature, patience, and has the ability to adapt to your child's way of learning.
