My exceptional ability as a tutor lies in my dedication to question-driven teaching. In addition to practice drills and other activities, I extend careful questions that guide students to a deep, self-funded understanding of the topic. This helps students become proficient without becoming dependent on me for solutions, and it makes the subject more important and memorable for them as well.

Study Skills,

High intelligence can succeed in school, but it does not succeed in life as much as having good habits. Good habits succeed in school as well as in life, and all of us can develop them. I was an avid procrastinator through my High School and College years. I only completed assignments the night before they were due, sometimes even the morning before! While I managed to hold top grades during this time, I didn't have the initiative to develop personally or professionally. Thanks to a long period of counseling and strategizing, I finally managed to be proactive in my tasks and achieve personal goals. As a former procrastinator and an experienced tutor of two years, I'm bringing my deep appreciation and knowledge of study skills to the Wyzant platform. I will help your students develop study habits and techniques that correspond to their own abilities. More importantly, I will teach your students to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses in order to create study goals that they are willing to reach. Overcoming procrastination and low class performance requires goals that fit just right.

English

I have two years of experience English tutoring, 1 year of reading and writing workshops, scored 4 on AP English test in High School.
Literature,

Literature

I've taught Literature at the Middle school and High School level for two years. I've also tutored PSAT/SAT reading skills and have led multiple group discussions on major works for Middle and High School. My specialty is question-driven learning, which is particularly important in literature study. Check out my profile for more info and see if I'm a good fit for your student!
SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

Only the best reader can crack the SAT; that's the way it is designed. There are important tips and techniques for top SAT performance, but there is no substitute for reading well. I've been tutoring competitive SAT reading students this past year, and I'm now bringing my expertise to the Wyzant platform. I can teach students how to budget their time, discern key question terminology, methodically tackle "Best Evidence" question pairs, and strategically "skeleton-read" essays in order to find relevant information and improve content retention. I guarantee to substantially improve your student's SAT-awareness and reading performance score.
Writing,

Writing

Writing means more than choosing words. It means deciding again and again exactly what you think, and what others should think. The task of writing is discovering a pure version of you on a certain issue. It's a revelation. I've worked with many students to help them discover exactly where they stand and what they mean. With my command of English and my experience writing resumes, essays, and academic papers, I can help your student reach the right message for any of their needs. History

Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

Whether the book be true or false, I've made it my goal to give it due attention. My religious studies at Biola University most consisted of studying Christian theology, which includes reading historic texts of Christian theology and development (the major works of Augustine, Aquinas, Eusibius, Bonaventure, Luther, Calvin, ect.) I have also studied Biblical text criticism and history of interpretation. I can give comprehensive help to a struggling theology student or a student merely surveying the claims of the Bible.
Religion,

Religion

Religion is an organized expression of humanity's deepest values. As part of my Religious Studies, I have read through the Bible and through the Quran twice. I have read over a dozen classic texts on the textual transmission and theological development of Christianity, the interpretive distinctives of Judaism, and the textual transmission and modern theology of Islam. I am also familiar with tenets of Eastern philosophy that manifest in religious views such as Taoism, Confucianism, and Hinduism. I can be of great help for any student undertaking an introductory, comparative, or complex study of major religions.

If I knew anything in high school, it was that math was not fun, and I would not continue with it. Even as an honors math student, it was painful to learn each new concept and apply it every week. But as it turned out, my college degree required mastery of pre-calculus. I had to discover how to appreciate math... So I studied hard, digesting each algebraic and trigonometric concept and integrating it with the others. After I did this, math started to feel satisfying. I began to see an order to things, a cleanness, that I didn't expect to appreciate. When I wasn't struggling with every step and confident in what I was doing, the process and the answer became interesting. The genius of the whole mathematical study began to reach me. With a combination of course instruction and rigorous self-study over the span of five weeks, I passed the final exam with a score above the 85th percentile. Whether your algebra student needs help with a single test or a whole course, I will mentor them to mastery, success, and satisfaction. As part of my pre-calculus studies, I've learned all prior algebra operations and identities. I've learned from a textbook and an instructor separately, and I will draw from both sources to advance your student's understanding and give them confidence in their algebra skills. Great Tutor

Spencer S. has helped my daughter with her reading and grammar plus on how to set up her presentation for her homework. Seen positive results on her report card. I have seen her effort towards her homework and school work improve I am sure it’s the result of the 2 tutors she has. Spencer in the reading and grammar, Brenden in her math. I really appreciate the effort and the enthusiasm these young men bring to helping my daughter.
