Experienced Math Tutor, Algebra 2 - Calculus
Hi, I'm Henry! I graduated cum laude from Lewis & Clark College with a degree in Math and Physics, and I am a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Since then, I've worn many hats, including math tutor, cook and farmer. Hi, I'm Henry! I graduated cum laude from Lewis & Clark College with a degree in Math and Physics, and I am a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Since then, I've worn many hats, including math tutor, cook and farmer. Most recently, I worked at a summer camp and retreat center in Southern California, developing experiential nature programming for campers aged 7-17. My education and work experience has led me to the understanding that there is no substitute for hands-on, applied experience when learning new information and skills. My goal with all of my students is build a deep, enduring understanding of the material. While formulas are important in math, you can expect me to always ask the question "why?". I believe there is no more satisfying feeling than a confident answer to that question.
I have over four years of experience tutoring high school and college algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. I've also received graduate-level training in pedagogy for enhanced learning through a recent professional fellowship. Most often, my students prefer to use our sessions together for homework help or test prep, and we use the material they're working on in class as a jumping-off point. However, I'm always happy to put together a full lesson for any student, which would always include practice problems. I usually find that students are the most acutely aware of their needs, so I stay flexible in how I organize my tutoring sessions.
I ask for 24 hours notice when canceling lessons. Please also send me any materials that you may want to work on (problem sets, study guides, etc). as far in advance as possible, preferably at least 8 hours before our lesson. I also offer a free 15-20 minute consultation session with any prospective student looking for ongoing tutoring so that I can better assess your needs and gather the best-suited materials for you. PLEASE ALSO NOTE: I do not check my email or messages from Friday night through Saturday night. Any emails or messages sent during that time frame will be responded

helped me with Calc 2 Review- a life saver
He was able to check my problems quickly, and when I didn't understand the problems he was able to quickly give me a review of the lesson the problem was on. When I needed extra time, he adjusted his schedule for me. Over all, a good and understanding teacher/tutor.Dawn, 1 lesson with Henry
5 stars for Henry. My son does not like to use tutors but needed a little extra help in AP Calc. I asked how his session went and he said "He was very good". I know that is not much detail as to why he was good but high praise from someone who prefers not to use tutor. We will be using Henry in the future.Brian, 4 lessons with Henry
