Philosophy, Writing, STEM Tutor for Advanced or Struggling Students

My name is Kenton and I'm deeply invested in teaching and learning. I have a degree in philosophy and I am preparing for graduate studies in the field, but I have had a very eclectic education. I was an advanced math student in high school, a neuroscience major for the first half of my college career, and have also dabbled in things like history, creative writing, and arboriculture along the way. My education has always been interdisciplinary and self-directed, which I always encourage in my friends and my students. I have been tutoring friends and clients for years, and now I’m doing it for a living.

I was a voracious learner from a young age, so I am always ready to help a student maintain an accelerated learning pace, whether it's to be competitive for school or just out of a burning curiosity. I have also worked with students with learning disabilities and I loved that too. Often, a little extra help is all it takes to go from “behind” to “ahead”. I understand that there can be a lot of pressure and anxiety, but I know how to help lay good knowledge foundations so that anxiety can recede and confidence can build. I went into philosophy because I have a keen sense of which questions I need to ask to push my knowledge on a subject. It is a critical skill for any learner, and I always try my best to help students ask the best questions of themselves and their teachers.

While in college, I was employed as a liaison between students and professors, so I am familiar with a lot of the problems that students can have with class structure and material. I think tutoring can be critical for clearing up those problems and bridging that gap. I've helped tutor all sorts of students for all sorts of things, including elementary school math, high school biology, college ethics, and revising graduate dissertations.

My schedule is relatively flexible, and I am happy to work across several subjects if a student has a lot of questions or assignments. Please let me know if you have any questions.
