I've worked directly with thousands of business owners, bookkeepers and accountants in setting up their accounting systems, which typically includes assisting in or integrating other aspects of their businesses. This has given me a tremendous amount of behind-the-scenes experience in business, including in accounting (especially), computer hardware, software and networking, assisting in writing business plans including marketing plans, assisting in preparing legal contracts for business owners to submit to their attorneys for review, assisting in setting up physical offices to help business owner and staff to work as efficiently and effectively as possible, guiding business owners through creating templates for everything from sales calls to payroll time sheets, and even sometimes answering phone calls or helping with something less common such as assisting with a photo shoot. I started my first business when I was eight years old raising and selling animals on my family's ranch, and have enjoyed working with artists, architects, attorneys, acupuncturists, academics, and many additional types of business owners for over fifteen years.

Computer

Computer Science,

Computer Science

The majority of my computer science skills and experience are probably in database management. This includes creating and maintaining QuickBooks files on both Windows and Mac computers, and creating and maintaining QuickBooks Online files. I've also routinely assisted in setting up and managing computer networks, though typically I would call experts in to handle this on projects I'm managing or assisting in managing. I've also had some additional computer science experience such as programming in Mac and HTML.
General Computer,

General Computer

I completed courses in computing, learning strategies, and other topics related to computer tutoring while earning my bachelor's degree from Sonoma State University where I graduated with distinction. I'm experienced in Windows, Mac, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, QuickBooks accounting software and other computer programs. I've built websites Shopify and other web hosting programs, and incorporating PayPal, Facebook and additional third-party software. This experience allows me to, for example, quickly and properly design and customize your e-commerce store's accounting system to efficiently enter data into QuickBooks in order to get the reports you need. I received mostly A's in high school and college courses. I continue to study computer programs on my own to stay current with the latest business computing trends.
Macintosh,

Macintosh

I've provided QuickBooks for Mac services since 2002. This has often involved working with the Mac operating system, identifying if Mac and QuickBooks are properly "talking to each other," tutoring new and experienced Mac users on how to use Mac, and more. We often cover downloading programs, backing up files, and more. I've studied Mac programming in high school (though that experience likely won't come into play for Mac tutoring here on WyzAnt), used Macs for decades, and taken computer courses using Mac computers. I use a Mac computer on a daily basis and have to admit that it's easy to become dependent on it.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I've provided QuickBooks for Windows services since 2002. This has often involved working with the Windows operating system, identifying if Windows and QuickBooks are properly "talking to each other," tutoring new and experienced Windows users on how to use Windows, assisting committed Mac users in learning Windows for their QuickBooks programs, and much more. I'm familiar with many standard business programs that run on Windows systems, and I've reformatted several Windows hard drives. I often walk QuickBooks for Windows customers through downloading programs, backing up files, and much more, and even get to enjoy helping some new users learn how to cut, copy and paste. I've studied Windows computers at Sonoma State University, used Windows computers for decades, set them up and maintained them myself, and organized documents on them to coordinate with digital accounting systems and paper systems when assisting in setting up offices. I regularly use a Windows computer to provide tutoring to customers on how to use QuickBooks for Windows, and how to use Windows in general.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Quickbooks online review of reconciling to bank statements, vendor input, paying with checks, merging duplicate vendors as well as reviewing basics.

Nancy, 1 lesson with Christine

Extremely satisfied client

I hired Christine to help me understand quickbooks a little better. After reviewing her teaching background, I knew she was the tutor for me. I’ve been using quickbooks for my business for a few years now but have always had a bookkeeper reviewing, editing, and reconciling the work for me. Having to depend on someone else to review my work was becoming very frustrating. Especially when I was in need of updated financials. So I decided to hire someone that would sit down and teach me how to do what I was paying someone else to do for me. And I’m so happy that I did. Even happier that I found someone that has the patience to teach me well. I’ve now been working with Christine for more than 3 months and I am absolutely thrilled with what I've learned. I am now able to catch my errors and print out updated financial reports without having to wait on someone else. She is extremely flexible with hours and is also available on the weekends. I HIGHLY recommend working with Christine. You will not regret it.

A True Quick Books Expert

Chrisitine gave me a comprehensive orientation to Quick Books and help me catch up work that had previously been done by someone else. She has built a detailed and structured series of lessons. If you want to learn all the in's and out's of Quick Books, Christine is your tutor!

Craig, 1 lesson with Christine
Tutor responded:

Thank you for your feedback, Craig! Courses are highly customized for each person according to platform (Windows, Mac, Online, or all three), version (e.g. QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Premier, or QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions), edition (e.g. Contractor, Retail, Manufacturing, or Professional), industry, specific accounting needs of the business and individual using QuickBooks, goals, and more. Example course descriptions are available. To readers becoming familiar with my services, completing the entire course typically takes about one and one half hours when done in one session, and offers you the foundation to setup or clean up your QuickBooks file, enter data into it, reconcile it and create reports from it, as well as complete other tasks. This includes offering you the basic QuickBooks and accounting terminology needed in your particular situation, such as entering your own data or hiring and managing someone else to do so. During training we typically click buttons so that you end up with a more properly set up and working file that you understand, with data entered into it, reports created from it, and more. When needed, we even cover such topics as which QuickBooks software is right for you. Covering the basic topics offers you a foundation for using most areas of QuickBooks. Getting this foundation is the fastest way to meet most people's QuickBooks learning goals. However, I'm very flexible and happy to much further customize the course or toss it out all together in your specific case. Just let me know what you would like as we go along and we can switch directions, tutoring styles, speed and more all along the way! Back to you, Craig -- thanks again for your feedback. It is much appreciated and I learned a lot from you! I look forward to working with you again in the future!

Knowledgeable about QuickBooks Desktop, but did not appear to be as knowledgeable about QuickBooks Online

Christine knows a lot about QuickBooks Desktop, but didn't seem to know too much about QuickBooks Online, the version I’m using. She was constantly surprised by differences between QBO and QBD. She doesn’t seem to know the accounting equation, or which accounts are debit and which credit. To me this is like a racing car driver knowing nothing about engines. Technically not necessary to know, but one would really expect it. Christine often went on tangents that, to me, didn’t seem to further my goal of learning QuickBooks and setting up my accounting system. For example, we started with QuickBooks Desktop, and later switched to QuickBooks Online. Even though I was no longer using QuickBooks Desktop, it would create an error message when I started my computer. Christine recommended removing QuickBooks desktop, which I did, and it solved the problem. But then, and here’s where the tangent comes in, she insisted on calling Intuit, and discussing the (now non-existent) problem with them. I insisted that we don’t call them. Christine tried to call them a number of times after that, even though the problem was no longer occurring, and I had to dissuade her each time. Christine seemed unnecessarily critical at times during our classes. For example, I once wrote a message to my customers in a memo field. "HAPPY DRIVING !!" Christine informed me there shouldn't be a space before the first exclamation mark. I need someone with knowledge of accounting, not punctuation. Christine, while controlling my computer remotely, ended up in private areas of my computer, again and again. I kept reprimanding her, asking her to *please* confine herself to the QuickBooks screen, but somehow we ended up in my favorites list, my file listings, my email. A picture of me playing the saxophone suddenly popped up. This was extremely irritating to me.

Experienced tutor

Christine helped with what I had asked of her whilst broadening my knowledge on the general concept of quickbooks and accounting. She was extremely attentive and continued to ask how he session was going if the pace she wa smoking at was okay for me.

Marisa, 1 lesson with Christine
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Marisa! I'm not sure if you meant the pace I "was moving" at, or that the pace was "smoking," but either way I'm glad you liked it! You were an excellent student, as well! I appreciate when someone is truly trying to learn, and I try to reward the effort! Congratulations on your progress! I look forward to hearing how things go!

Christine is a knowledgeable and patient online tutor

Christine is great. I am gaining the knowledge I will need to comfortably set up and use QuickBooks for our company. I started with no background in accounting or QB. I definitely recommend Christine no matter what your previous level is with QB.

Brenda, 10 lessons with Christine
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Brenda, for the recommendation! It's been exciting to be part of your journey and to see you make such solid and extensive progress in learning both accounting and QuickBooks! Great work! I look forward to us completing the final stages of your project!

Knowledgeable and patient. It's obvious she loves teaching.

Christine immediately understood what I asked to learn and then kept me focused on the important tasks to get me there. I am very much looking forward to our next lesson.
