About Christine

Call for a free first QuickBooks telephone assessment and a free first QuickBooks tutoring session!

FREE FIRST TELEPHONE CONSULTATION. Highly customized and valuable, this free first consultation typically includes an assessment, customized recommendations, project planning, recommendation for preparing for your next session, and more.

FREE FIRST TUTORING SESSION. This additional free and highly customized session allows you to try online tutoring. During this session, we can share the view of your screen or mine while talking on the telephone. Most people who try remote tutoring with me love it, even if they originally had a strong preference for in-person tutoring. This session is typically combined with the free telephone consultation to allow us more time for assessment, recommendations, project planning and more. Please allow 30 minutes for both consultations.

Whether or not you plan to hire me, I encourage you to take advantage of these valuable free services!

I earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and graduated with distinction from Sonoma State University where I completed courses in computers, statistics, and learning strategies. I completed courses in small business tax accounting and bookkeeping, and I performed bookkeeping services for many years for both my own and other people's businesses including CPA firms.

I've designed and led QuickBooks community college courses for the College of Marin in Marin County, California, and QuickBooks seminars and webinars for participants throughout the United States for many years. I've consistently received exceptional reviews on my training services.

I've tutored in elementary school math, algebra, computers, business, accounting, study skills, and of course QuickBooks.

When I'm not at the computer, you can often find me walking, jogging, bicycling, preparing healthy food or studying natural medicine, interests of mine since I was a child collecting miner's lettuce from the hills of our family farm in Sonoma and Marin County in California.

Please call for details your free consultation, and your free QuickBooks tutoring session.

Best regards,

Christine M.

"Knowledgeable about QuickBooks Desktop, but did not appear to be as knowledgeable about QuickBooks Online"

- Mark, Palo Alto, CA on 10/17/17
Christine replied on 1/3/2018

Dear Mark,

I'm sorry that you weren't completely satisfied with your decision to use QuickBooks Online, then move to QuickBooks Desktop, and then back to QBO. I'm sorry you don't recall that I recommended several times that we determine the right software for you before you buy it.

I'm sorry you didn't seem to understand how remote sessions work and that when saving a file, your computer might show message suggesting where to save it based on folders you have. That's just how computers work and unfortunately I have no control over it. That's why I suggested due to your special privacy concerns that only you control your computer during our sessions and that you stop sharing your screen when you are going to bring up something private. I'm sorry you didn't follow my recommendations and your "Save as" window came up.

I'm sorry that you tried to apply complex accrual accounting before first following my recommendation to learn basic cash accounting (which is what most new small business owners would start with). I'm sorry you had trouble understanding debits and credits and thought instead that your book and I were having trouble with it. Fortunately, most bookkeepers and accountants don't need to understand debits and credits to use QB successfully.

I'm sorry you had a lot of interruptions most sessions due to other things going on in your life. I could see how that could cause you to have trouble remembering what was covered.

I'm sorry that Intuit didn't have the answer to some of the more unusual questions you asked, and I'm sorry that none of their available documents had the answers for you either. Fortunately, most of that info is not needed for QuickBooks, accounting, business systems or related activities, but I'm glad we were able to help satisfy your curiosity on a broad range of topics.

Hopefully you can rest assured that most of the information you asked for is not information that most business owners need.

Topics you wanted to explore like QBO programming code and why you shouldn't skip lines in GJEs are interesting but the information is not needed for most businesses, and I don't think Intuit reps could or would be allowed to tell you the actual code used in their software programs.

However, I'm glad I could call them for you the times you asked me to do so, to ask these sorts of questions per your requests, just in case they could satisfy your curiosity as I think you put it. Fortunately you won't need that information for the things you said you were interested in doing.

I'm sorry if you don't recall asking me many times to correct your punctuation for you. I guess you forgot that you had asked me to give you that feedback.

I'm sorry if you don't realize that it's OK for me to contact Intuit on my own time to help clients. It helps Intuit work out bugs, often results in free services for my clients, etc. That's part of why Intuit set up the ProAdvisor program support -- it benefits everyone, especially at the highest level which I'm honored to be a part of. I'm glad (you said) that you found benefit in those calls and the free results you got afterwards. After I gave you feedback for free, you asked me to call Intuit again with you on the phone. We ended up on the phone for over three hours with them, you asked many questions and weren't billed for it (by Intuit or me) so it seems you clearly wanted and benefited from it. And in the end, you acknowledged to me that I had given you excellent service and provided the necessary information even before the calls. Unfortunately I don't know how to interpret your review on this or other topics.

I'm sorry it has seemed to be hard for you to recall how our sessions went, from one to the next. I appreciate that many times after you thought I was wrong on something, you said you looked it up in your "Dummies" book and found that I was accurate and you thanked me. It's my job and a pleasure to provide excellent service to my customers.

I'm sorry you were having computer, phone and other problems. I'm glad I was able to quickly help resolve some of those issues and refer you when needed.

You gave me five out of five stars on every session you rated including the last one, before that last rating was changed for some reason. Since the review you wrote is unfortunately not accurate, I'm wondering if there's something else that's bothering you. If something about the session truly wasn't perfect, then I would like a chance to correct it! :)

It was a pleasure to work with you.

Warmly,

Christine

It was a pleasure working with you, Don. Intuit has said that they do not plan to publish any future editions of QuickBooks for Mac. QuickBooks for Mac users are encouraged to call me for details and to discuss which QuickBooks version might be right for them, and whether they would like to use it (such as the online version or a Windows version) on their Mac or on a different computer. We can often cover software selection during a free consultation. Call me anytime.

"Disappointed"

- Jinlan, Lakeside, CA on 2/28/16
Christine replied on 3/1/2017

I'm so sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied. Unfortunately, what you wrote isn't actually correct. Please check your WyzAnt records as WyzAnt shows you were charged for less time than you stated, and of the hundreds of hours I've tutored with them, they have always charged my customers the proper amount. Also, I charged you for less tutoring time than I actually provided as it is my general practice to round down in the customer's favor, which saved you money. To be fair, other things you wrote aren't correct either, but to try to be brief and as previously stated to you, I'm always open to discussing student's concerns and trying to find a fair way to make everyone a happy and satisfied customer. I really do care a lot about my customers and helping them to meet their goals, and really do think that I gave you exceptional service. Again, please feel free to call (or write to) me with any concerns. I'm happy to help!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I've worked directly with thousands of business owners, bookkeepers and accountants in setting up their accounting systems, which typically includes assisting in or integrating other aspects of their businesses.

This has given me a tremendous amount of behind-the-scenes experience in business, including in accounting (especially), computer hardware, software and networking, assisting in writing business plans including marketing plans, assisting in preparing legal contracts for business owners to submit to their attorneys for review, assisting in setting up physical offices to help business owner and staff to work as efficiently and effectively as possible, guiding business owners through creating templates for everything from sales calls to payroll time sheets, and even sometimes answering phone calls or helping with something less common such as assisting with a photo shoot.

I started my first business when I was eight years old raising and selling animals on my family's ranch, and have enjoyed working with artists, architects, attorneys, acupuncturists, academics, and many additional types of business owners for over fifteen years.

Computer Science

The majority of my computer science skills and experience are probably in database management. This includes creating and maintaining QuickBooks files on both Windows and Mac computers, and creating and maintaining QuickBooks Online files.

I've also routinely assisted in setting up and managing computer networks, though typically I would call experts in to handle this on projects I'm managing or assisting in managing.

I've also had some additional computer science experience such as programming in Mac and HTML.

Financial Accounting

I've specialized in business accounting for over fifteen years. I guide business owners in setting up their Chart of Accounts and other features of their accounting system using QuickBooks. I've passed multiple accounting and bookkeeping exams with flying colors including a controller exam.

General Computer

I completed courses in computing, learning strategies, and other topics related to computer tutoring while earning my bachelor's degree from Sonoma State University where I graduated with distinction.

I'm experienced in Windows, Mac, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, QuickBooks accounting software and other computer programs. I've built websites Shopify and other web hosting programs, and incorporating PayPal, Facebook and additional third-party software. This experience allows me to, for example, quickly and properly design and customize your e-commerce store's accounting system to efficiently enter data into QuickBooks in order to get the reports you need.

I received mostly A's in high school and college courses. I continue to study computer programs on my own to stay current with the latest business computing trends.

Macintosh

I've provided QuickBooks for Mac services since 2002. This has often involved working with the Mac operating system, identifying if Mac and QuickBooks are properly "talking to each other," tutoring new and experienced Mac users on how to use Mac, and more.

We often cover downloading programs, backing up files, and more.

I've studied Mac programming in high school (though that experience likely won't come into play for Mac tutoring here on WyzAnt), used Macs for decades, and taken computer courses using Mac computers.

I use a Mac computer on a daily basis and have to admit that it's easy to become dependent on it.

Managerial Accounting

I've specialized in business accounting for fifteen years. I guide business owners in setting up their Chart of Accounts and other features of their accounting system using QuickBooks. I've passed multiple accounting and bookkeeping exams with flying colors including a controller exam.

Microsoft Windows

I've provided QuickBooks for Windows services since 2002. This has often involved working with the Windows operating system, identifying if Windows and QuickBooks are properly "talking to each other," tutoring new and experienced Windows users on how to use Windows, assisting committed Mac users in learning Windows for their QuickBooks programs, and much more.

I'm familiar with many standard business programs that run on Windows systems, and I've reformatted several Windows hard drives.

I often walk QuickBooks for Windows customers through downloading programs, backing up files, and much more, and even get to enjoy helping some new users learn how to cut, copy and paste.

I've studied Windows computers at Sonoma State University, used Windows computers for decades, set them up and maintained them myself, and organized documents on them to coordinate with digital accounting systems and paper systems when assisting in setting up offices.

I regularly use a Windows computer to provide tutoring to customers on how to use QuickBooks for Windows, and how to use Windows in general.

QuickBooks

I've designed and led QuickBooks community college courses for the award-winning College of Marin in Marin County, California, and QuickBooks seminars and webinars for participants throughout the United States for many years.

Participants have consistently reviewed the content and presentation of my tutoring and courses with five out of five stars and report retaining and using the information very well.

I've tutored CPAs, bookkeepers, small business owners and others in QuickBooks, performed accounting and business consulting for CPA firms, and have a Bachelor's degree from Sonoma State University where I graduated with distinction.

Please contact me for details and your free QuickBooks sessions, which we can usually do in the same day you call!
