About Alex

As a professional Karate instructor for five years with a second degree black belt in Wado Karate, I have experience tutoring students of all ages, both in large groups and individually. As a high school Salutatorian, I am well versed in every area of general education, and I scored 5's (the highest possible) on no less than six Advanced Placement tests. I currently tutor half a dozen happy students in fields of History, Pre-Calculus, English, and Chemistry. As a college Valedictorian, from the University of Advancing Technology, class of 2013, I am an expert in matters of computer science, higher mathematics, and video game design, and I offered my services to many of my fellow students during my time there.. I am also an accomplished musician, having performed both covers and my own material live for crowds ranging from dozens to thousands. I am an enthusiastic music teacher, always ready to listen to and help guide students, aiming always for higher levels of achievement.

I always make sure that tutoring is a two-way experience, where the client can drive towards what they want to learn, and I help guide them in the right direction. I vow to always listen, always take you and your concerns seriously. I feel that respect can only be earned when it is given, and I do my utmost to respect every individual I assist. Tutoring and personal assistance has been a lifelong passion, one that I've done for many years unprofessionally, and professionally for the past year. So please, if you're seeking guidance in the ways of computer science, martial arts, music theory, or any class you're taking, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C#

I took several classes on C# during college. I have since used C# in a number of professional projects, usually as the main programming language in games written in the Unity engine. I currently have 4 years of experience with C#, as of February 2015.

Computer Programming

I graduated from the University of Advancing Technology with a Bachelor's of Science in Game Programming several years ago. I've practiced programming since my early high school days, and I've worked as a programmer on multiple professional game projects. The very first student I tutored needed help with a programming class, and I've tutored several students through myriad languages since then!

Martial Arts

I am a second-degree black belt in Wado Karate. My certificate is signed by Ray Hughes (6th degree), Butch Balingit (7th degree), Douglas Jepperson (6th degree), and my own Sensei Marlon Moore (7th degree). I taught classes as a courtesy at my Dojo for many years, and then professionally for three more. I taught classes that varied in size from one or two students to a couple dozen, and I taught from ages four through adult.
