Hi. I’m Kate. I like to work math problems and I like to help others with math! I have earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University, another bachelor's degree in computer science from University of Illinois Springfield, and a master's degree in education focusing on community college teaching and learning from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I've also taught math and engineering classes at both the university and community college level, and I have 20 years of private math instruction experience. I love it more than any other job I've ever done!

I specialize in math learning for adults but will meet with high school students to teach math or provide general homework support in most other subjects. I am available to meet in a mutually agreed upon public location (coffee shop, school, library). There is a 24-hour cancellation policy and the option to reschedule appointments with at least 2 hours prior notice. All lessons will be charged a minimum of 1 hour and must be billed through Wyzant.

I’m very organized, prompt, reliable and friendly. It doesn’t matter if you are a student who is struggling with basic algebra or if you need help with more advanced topics in geometry, trigonometry, statistics, calculus I or calculus II. I *love* private instruction and am ready to help!

Knowledgeable and patient

Every session she works with my daughter is invaluable. Kind and leading in the most positive way. Especially with math, students can quickly become intimidated but the way Kate teaches, my daughter just feels better after each session. I can’t believe how lucky we are to have discovered her!

Christine, 32 lessons with Kate

Kate is a student-orientated tutor and that is what I want.

Kate continues to perform what I hoped she would. She gives the student the freedom to discuss where they are at in a subject and to drive the lesson. This gives the student the chance to show what they know and allows the tutor to monitor their thought and performance process. When a student struggles they can ask for help or Kate can jump in to help them out and use that time to offer suggestions to assist the student in future problems related to that lesson. Kate is a student-orientated tutor and that is what I want. I want my child to demonstrate what they are working on, how they approach the lesson, and demonstrate how they approach problem solving. This approach allows Kate to monitor the student's understanding of the lesson, the problem-solving techniques exhibited, and ways the student can improve.

Really Cares

Kate is an outstanding tutor who, on her own time, digests the material to ensure a productive and effective tutoring session. She is patient, kind and truly cares about her student's educational experience. I would highly recommend Kate to anyone seeking tutorial services.

Great tutor

Teenagers don't always want "extra" work. Kate is very patient when my son is not the most thrilled to have a tutoring session. By the end of the hour, he is always smiling and in a better mood than he was at the start. 9/22 - Another great session with Kate. She really has a way of connecting. My son always ends the tutoring session in a much better place.

A Life Saver!

Kate has been a great help to my teenager with his Geometry class! He was falling through the cracks in this class and now he is passing and feels the increased confidence of having a handle on the material. Kate is not only knowledgeable, she is a gifted teacher! We are luck to have her help!
