About Hannah

I am currently an Education major at Western Washington University. I am a transfer student and obtained my Associates degree in June 2016. Teaching is my passion, as discovered when I began tutoring my freshman year of high school. I want to inspire youth to find a love for learning, as I found early on. Even at a young age, I was drawn to discovering new information and obtaining new skills.

This characteristic has stayed with me. I hope to open a new door for students, allowing them to see all the potential that they have in store. I believe in teaching from an encouraging and uplifting standpoint, showing students how to believe in themselves and find confidence in their knowledge and skills. I also believe in introducing students to goal setting, which is an important step in any learning journey. With hard work, anything is possible, and I hope to inspire and assist students in pursuing their goals.

My tutoring/teaching experience begins my freshman year of high school. Here, I began volunteering at my old middle school, helping students with basic subjects such as math and English after school. I also started volunteering as an assistant basketball coach for our youth AAU program. Within this program, I put in 10 volunteer hours a week working on teaching youth new skills.

I continued on as an assistant basketball coach through my senior year of high school. My junior year, I began tutoring more in depth. I was given students to work with for longer periods of time, focusing on one main subject. I continued with this through my senior year as well. In my senior year, I worked with an 8th grade student for from October-June, assisting her in raising her math grade from failing to a B+. Also, I became a volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program my junior and senior year as well. From September-June each year I would work with an Elementary student on improving social, behavioral, and educational skills. As the year concluded, I was praised by the student's teachers, parents, and counselors, on how much positive change was seen in the student. Finally, my senior year of high school I was employed at a Daycare, helping students ages 5-13 with homework each shift.

Math has always been one of my strongest subjects and I've excelled in it since Elementary school. I've taken through Calculus and Statistics, receiving an A in each class. I've also tutored through Algebra II, helping my students drastically raise their grades. I don't believe in the "I'm just not good at math" phrase that's often given from students, but rather that anyone can succeed in math with hard work and encouragement.

English and Writing has always been something that I've succeeded in. I've taken up to Advanced College English and Writing. Throughout all of my tutoring years, I am often the one recommended to proof read and edit papers, which I thoroughly enjoy doing. I also enjoy English, Reading and Writing as a whole. I read in my free time and enjoy fiction novels. I have a close eye and am very precise. I hope to help students find their voice as writers, find a love and understanding for reading, and discover new knowledge in English.

I am so excited to help students find a love for learning and achieve their goals! Please contact me at any time with any questions or for more information. I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have taken College level public speaking and received an A in the class, emerging as one of the top students. I have participated in the DECA business program, an association of marketing students, for three years, participating in multiple competitions. Within these competitions, I gave many speeches and business proposals, placing first at AREA competition and advancing to Internationals. In my current job, I work as a Demonstration Rep. for Earthborn dog food. My job duties including informing customers about the benefits of the dog food, so my shifts are all about speaking to people. I train others as well within this field, teaching them public speaking and personal interaction skills.
