About Patricia

I am passionate about teaching mathematics. Math can intimidate people due to lack of understanding. When a teacher approaches students with their mathematics knowledge, there is a fine line between proving to be a subject matter expert and intimidating them. If I approach my students as an equal, helping them along a journey of mathematics understanding the outcome is always positive. This approach requires much patience and diverse resources. Students and fellow staff alike appreciate my unique approach to mathematics practice. My premise is practice makes a person commit to the concept they are practicing. So if a student practices math incorrectly, they commit to memory the incorrect practices. This is damaging to regimented math processes. I strive to keep my students challenged at a functioning level. This concept along with collaborative efforts and communication increases the success of all students.

My passion is expressed by making learning fun. I strive to find real world situations where the individual students can see themselves using the mathematics process. This provides them with the answer to the question of why they are taking the class in the first place. I incorporate several different ways to solve the same problem by breaking the rules of mathematics down to the fundamentals. Then I explain why adjusting from within the rules can make the process easier. In some of my classes, I may solve an equation three to four different ways ensuring to follow rules of mathematics and showing each student how the process works. This requires patience. With patience, the students find a process they can relate to and work with when discussing options to solve equations.

I am certified to teach any high school subject. I have taught algebra at the college level and have tutored college students for years in many math subjects.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
