About Bill

I began private saxophone Lessons at the age of 5. I completed 11 years of training from teachers at The University of Washington and Blackstone Music School of Seattle. I performed in symphonic and jazz ensembles in high school and college and went on to perform professionally in live music acts starting 1979 to present. Also in this period I taught grade, elementary, jr. high, and high school students on saxophone, flute, guitar, and song writing. Along with all of this I have considerable accomplishments in composition, record sales, and entertainment management.

I have some background in counselling, which has enabled me to treat each student individually and respect their particular process of learning. I am truly a people person and enjoy meeting new people in my work.

Additional Experience includes: Years of experience working in Music Stores both a Salesmen and in Management. I have a great deal of experience with various musical instruments and sound reinforcement equipment. All of my experience has proven valuable when applied to my teaching.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Flute

I had 11 years of private instruction on saxophone, a close relative to The Flute, prior to 3 years of Private Flute Lessons from Teachers from The University of Washington. Many principles of Saxophone are directly applicable to Flute. I performed flute in High School Jazz Band for one year and Shoreline C. College Symphonic Band for one year. Also performed professionally on Flute as well and I have had flute students in the past. I use the RUBANK method book for teaching flute.

Guitar

If you refer to my 'Saxophone' background on WyzAnt, you'll see that I have several years of experience with reading music. This of course transfers to my abilities as a guitar player and teacher.

I started 'Guitar' lessons at the age of 14. I took private lessons for 2 years and as I had an established background in music playing the saxophone, I continued learning and performing 'Guitar' on my own.

I performed in a few Live Music Bands playing guitar, starting in 1980.

I am confident to accept 'starting to intermediate' Guitar Students. I am prepared to teach them starting level scales, and chords. I can teach them how to learn basic chord progressions for songs. If requested, I can teach 'Song Writing' both music and lyrics, as well. I have written and recorded several original compositions that are on CD.

Saxophone

I started private saxophone lessons at the age of 5 until 16 with instructors from the University of Washington. Performed in school bands and in College. Received command performance awards and local entertainer awards. I have taught private music lessons off and on since 1976. All ages. I have also performed professionally for over 30 years and have background in recording and composition. I believe each student requires an individual evaluation and approach to teaching. Learning music should be fun :)

Songwriting

I am an accomplished music Composer, Arranger, and Lyricist. Also have written Commercial Jingles.

Started composing music at the age of 16, about the same time I started playing guitar.

Continued writing songs, played guitar, sang in a trio 1980-1984, and submitted demo recordings to major labels, Columbia, Atlantic, and Geffen to name a few.

Completed courses in Theory at Shoreline C. College. Have written several Original Compositions, mostly , R&B, Rock, Blues and Jazz oriented compositions. This material was professionally recorded on compact disc, sold in the Greater Seattle area, and performed live by; "The Charles White Band", "Mary McPage", as well as other local entertainers.

Currently have a Song available on TUNECORE.

I will provide MP3 Audio File Samples upon request.

Patient, encouraging and skilled sax teacher.

Bill has done an amazing job with my son. My son has worked with Bill for about 9 months and the quality of his playing has improved drastically. He pushes my son in a positive way to do his best and to grow as a musician. We are very happy with the progress our son has made under Bill's teaching.
