I am a retired Software/Hardware Engineer/Development Manager. I worked primarily in the Telephony industry. I started designing hardware in the early seventies, and when the microprocessor became available I also wrote the code. From there I just kept writing code. And I'm still writing code.

I have worked as a hardware engineer and as the head of quality assurance early in my career. However most of the time I was working as a software engineer. I also managed large projects all of which were in excess of 100,000 lines of code and employed as many as 25 engineer. The problems of software development has been on my mind for decades. I have listen to academia over the years and have often felt than if there were in the trenches with us they may see thing little differently. One thing I have come to understand is the best approach to software development depends a great deal on the type of project. Coding an app for a cell phone is very different then coding the infrastructure for a cell phone network. I do not want to come off as though I feel superior. I believe the it takes a great deal of skill to create a decent cell phone app. It just that the rules are very different.

I have written code in assembly language, FORTRAN, Pascal, and C and C++ professionally. I have troubleshot COBOL and RPG II. I have written protocol stacks and mediation systems. I have written websites with php, JavaScript. If you want to write code I can help you.

If you need help writing solid code give me a call I can help you.

Very patient and knowledgable with UNIX

Don has been tutoring my son with his Unix class. Don is very patient and explains in detail until the lesson is understood. I would definitely recommend him.

Don knows his stuff

My favorite thing about Don was that he was prepared. I sent him an assignment a day before and he was ready to explain it to me when our appointment came up. He worked WITH me. He didn't just do all the work. We did it together and answered all of my questions. Would work with again.

Knowledgeable and patient!

Don and I went over an assembly language (x86) assignment, which was all new to me. He was extremely patient and went over the code piece by piece, explaining the concepts, and solving problems. That was very helpful and exactly what I needed. He also made sure to suggest some complement material for me to go over on my own time, to get a better understanding of the language. I would definitely recommend him, and will schedule more sections myself.

Very patient

He was very patient and willing to help with every part even though we worked for a VERY long time. I probably wouldn't have been able to understand the parts of the assignments and how to do them without him.
