I have degrees in Marine Biology and Biochemistry, and I have two years experiences as a research technician at San Francisco State University's Estuary & Ocean Science Center. At the EOS Center I worked for a lab that does salt marsh and eelgrass bed restoration work in San Francisco Bay. I have also worked for another lab at EOS that researches estuarine nutrient dynamics and phytoplankton ecology.

I have extensive teaching experience: Besides working as a self-employed STEM tutor, I used to work as a tutor or teaching assistant for the Biology Department at UC Davis and the STEM Center at Cañada College. At SF State, I was a grader for Quantitative Analysis and a note-taker for General Physical Chemistry.

Since junior high, I've been taking math classes far more advanced than my peers. Geometry is a subject I'm very comfortable, and more importantly for you as a student, I do a great job of communicating core concepts of geometry that can seem difficult to grasp at first.

I'm really passionate about Biology and Chemistry, especially in the sort of first-year Biology and Chemistry classes that most STEM majors are required to take. Unless you build a good foundation in that first year, you will continue to struggle as you progress through school and take progressively more difficult classes. Because I've transferred between schools, I've often had to repeat courses in Biology and Chemistry because my credits would not transfer over. Although this experience was extremely frustrating, being forced to take such basic, foundational courses more than once really helped drill the concepts into my head.

I've worked in the public sector proofreading legal documents and court forms, all of which require a high level of attention to detail. I also have years of experience producing press releases, op-eds, and online content for various non-profits and advocacy groups. All of these tasks require sharp proofreading skills, and I have hands-on experience that helps to inform the assistance I can give students in proofreading.

I am a straight A student. I pride myself in knowing the material I study well. However, no matter how well a person knows their material, they have to be able to communicate that knowledge well in order to be a good tutor. I believe that doing so is one of my key strengths. I also have years of experience successfully teaching or tutoring students on various subjects.

Also, I'm am empathetic tutor. I'm an older student with a life outside of school and a person who, despite my academic strengths, has often struggled with the grind of schoolwork, balancing work and school and relationships, and with navigating the bureaucracy of an educational institution. I make it a point to be a tutor with whom you can feel comfortable saying "I don't get it" or "I had a really tough week and I didn't have time to work on this." I can also go over your study habits with you and discuss your current schedule and time management skills if you need that.

I'm an honest tutor as well. If I feel that I'm not giving you value for your money, I will recommend you stop coming to see me and find someone else instead. Or if I can tell that you are dead tired and nothing we're working on is really sinking in, I might cut our tutoring session short and ask that we try again another day instead of making you waste another hour paying me. In my opinion there is nothing more unethical than tutors who know they aren't helping their students well but keep taking their money anyway.

Please contact me if you are interested in my services and would like to set up a tutoring appointment! Look forward to hearing from you!
