About Elliott

I began tutoring in high school by volunteering after school, and during my AP Calculus class. I continued tutoring throughout my math degree both free-lance and pro bono. My students consistently told me that they most value how I was able to clearly and concisely break things down until they understood the concepts well enough to apply them confidently themselves.

There’s a moment when math suddenly just clicks, when someone jumps from confusion to total understanding. Most people get really excited about math at that moment because they’re experiencing the beauty of math – perhaps for the first time – a beauty that made me fall in love with it. That’s the moment that makes me enjoy tutoring so much, and why I’m so passionate about sharing math with others.

I have experience guiding students through:

Algebra I,
Algebra II,
Geometry,
Trigonometry/Precalc, and
Calculus I,
Statistics,
Probability,
Mathematical Logic, and
Business for Calculus.

I also have experience coaching students in test preparation that works and the best test taking strategies.

Math is not to be memorized. It’s to be understood and internalized. I teach with this principle in mind. If you try to just memorize all the theorems, definitions, and solution techniques – you’ll quickly become overwhelmed. If you need to actually understand your class so that you can attack homework and tests with confidence, my approach is for you.

Sometimes all that is needed is for one weak point in your knowledge to be re-explained. Or you require someone who will tailor explanations and examples for you over the course of an entire class. In either case, I am dedicated to guiding you through your confusion to the moment of clarity where everything makes sense.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
