Supportive and motivational
David, 18 lessons with Mary AnnMary Ann is the best tutor my son has worked with. She is well trained, intelligent, and inspirational. Mary Ann knows how to motivate and ask for my son's best effort, but she is also patient and understanding of his learning style and needs, Mary Ann is completely reliable and thoroughly professional, and at the same time she is considerate and friendly. My son and I have the utmost respect for Mary Ann and recommend her to the highest degree possible. I am a former school principal...
Hi! My name is Mary Ann. I enjoy tutoring young people and adults in math and Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese. I'm a fun and effective tutor, trying to make math and Chinese easy to understand and fun to learn.
I'm a native Chinese speaker, and I studied Chinese for fifteen years before I moved to the U.S. When I was a student at the University of Washington for my B.A. degree, I worked part-time in many hospitals as a Certified Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese Medical Interpreter. I was...

A helpful, practical, and kind tutor
Mary Ann was able to help my daughter identify all of the fundamental knowledge she is missing and began addressing those areas. She has given her a lot of practical help and practice. With continued work, I now have hope that my daughter can learn to master math one day. It's been such a struggle for her and I am relieved. I'm so glad we found Mary Ann!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor
First hour pre-cal with Mary Ann was effective. My daughter said Mary Ann was right on the details and explained it very well, makes it not difficult as it was. Thank you Mary Ann.

Fantastic Tutor!
When Mary first came to help me, I was doing pretty poorly in Algebra 2. By the end of the year, with her help, my math grade had gone up by two letter grades. Even when I was seriously struggling with a topic, she was always super patient and helped me understand what I was missing. If I could give 6 stars I would! I highly recommend!

Very helpful Tutor!
Mary Ann is very helpful and takes the time to explain things that you need to know. I did more practice in basic Algebra, than what I expected. I look forward to having her from time to time during my studies with math.

No longer a math hater!
Thanks to Mary Ann, my daughter in Honors Algebra no longer hates math. Doesn't love it, but so happy she doesn't hate it! Her confidence is back after just a couple of sessions.

Great Tutor
Mary Ann is great with our daughter. She gives her the tools to learn and then do it on her own. She answers emails right away and is very easy to work with.

Very Patient
Flexible and attentive teacher. Focuses on what I need to to learn, adjusting her style and what we cover dynamically rather than a rote way of teaching.

Great Tutor with Dedication and Follow-Through
We contacted Mary Ann in mid-February after learning our nephew was struggling with Pre-Calculus I, at the 6th week point of quarter, and borderline failing the class. We elected to work with Mary Ann based on her language background, skills, and credentials posted on WyzAnt. While we did not personally observe the sessions she had with our nephew over a 4 week period from February to March, she consistently kept us updated after each session: learning progress, concepts reviewed, and homework assigned. Her thoroughness in reviewing areas of deficiency allows her to make incremental adjustments in her weekly approach. She helped him shore-up on Algebra fundamentals with added exercises while going back on sections of Pre-Calculus he didn’t understand. This was all while keeping an eye on the upcoming quiz, 2nd mid-term, and the final exam. We averaged 2-3 lessons per week at 1 ½ hrs - 2 hrs each during 4 weeks. With a closer eye on his understandings and follow-through with different exercises, the quizzes improved from 4/15 to 15/15 and the mid-term 64/100 increased to final 117/120. This enabled him to close out the quarter with an improved knowledge towards Pre-Calculus II. Our conditions may be more severe than others due to our nephew's poor study habits and weak Algebra background. We learned that Mary Ann was able to bridge the gap, catch up, and help him turn the corner. She was dedicated throughout each tutoring session. We are fortunate to have her working with our nephew, and she is continuing with him this quarter with Pre-Calc II…
