You will get the best from me, so I want you to give your best in your work. I love teaching and I'm patient, kind, gentle, but challenging. The only way to get ahead, even if you have a "natural talent" in some area, is to do the work and practice as often as you can. Will and desire is the ticket to excellence in any field or subject. I'm an ESL teacher with a degree in English Literature and a CELTA approved by Cambridge University. I have taught Speaking and Listening for more than 20 years during which Public Speaking and giving Speeches have been an important part of my classes. On public speaking, my classes included the practical "how to" of research, writing, practice, body language, volume, pitch and pace of speech, opening comments techniques, the speech itself and the conclusion. I also include practical physical training and ways to overcome nervousness, how to make and use notes, index cards, humor and how to avoid forgetting the middle of a speech and what to do if you do. Aside from being an excellent teacher, I'm a published poet and an actor with a long history of doing performance arts including public speaking, poetry readings and on stage acting.
When I was in university, I minored in Religious Studies. I also lived in Asia where I studied and experienced Buddhism and other forms of Asian Religions. Songwriting is lyrics and lyrics have much to do with Poetry. My degree is in literature and my focus was Poetry. My focus for the last 35 years, in fact, has been and still is American and British poetry. Since graduating, in 1979, I have continued to write poems and songs and have published three books, read them all over the United States and even Asia. I have a great respect for poetry of the past, but also understand contemporize poetry. I do not write Rap or Hip Hop, nor do I take part in Slams, but if it's lyrical poetry you want to understand, I can help you with that. So, let's be clear. Poetry is related to songwriting. I'm not a singer-songwriter, but a Poet, and all poetry has to do with sound and music.
I have a degree in English which focused not only on Literature, but also on Writing and Creative Writing. I have taught Freshman Composition for over 15 years at universities in Korea and, for the last 7.5 years, at Edmonds Community College here in Washington where I now teach it. I am a published writer with books in print. I currently teach Grammar at five levels which only makes my skills at writing stronger.
