Hi, I'm Devon! I graduated suma cum laude with my degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University, and I am a current second year medical student on the path to become a physician. I have a passion for teaching, and have been tutoring students in math, chemistry, biology and biochemistry for over ten years. My favorite educational experiences have come from teachers and professors who were able to adapt their teaching style to fit the needs of their students. I bring this philosophy with me when I tutor and engage in constant communication and feedback with my tutee to ensure a collaborative learning environment.
As an elite soccer player and coach, I have seen how positive reinforcement and allowing students to practice the material on their own with input can really help solidify a concept. My lesson plans consist of introducing and teaching the subject in an engaging manner, and then working through any challenges the student has with the material. I usually like to follow this up with practice problems that really allow the student to engage with the material.
My ultimate goal is to benefit students and allow them to be successful. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have and to schedule a lesson! I look forward to working with you or your student!
Math has always been one of my favorite subjects, and I have been tutoring students in this area for over 10 years. My previous experience tutoring has been at the middle school, high school and college levels. I did very well in math throughout my years of schooling, and I contemplated a minor in college. I took all of the math courses available to me at my high school, including AP Calculus, and in college I finished my calculus requirements for my degree. I approach teaching math in much of the same manner as any of the other subjects that I teach, in that I have multiple ways to explain the subject to my student and I ensure collaborative communication throughout the session.
