My love of the written word came from my love of reading. I have been an avid reader since I learned to read and that love blossomed into a love for creating my own worlds through writing. During my higher education I had several teachers whose passions for the subject they taught influenced and inspired me to share my knowledge with others. I am working towards getting my teaching certificate in order to teach English at the Middle School level and am really excited to share my love of books and the written word with others.
I currently work for an elementary school as an ELL instructional assistant, which means that I work with our Newcomer students and make sure their reading, writing, and comprehension skills are developing well. I love working with my students and this experience has made my desire to teach even greater.
My Bachelor's degree in English from Washington State University allowed me to gain knowledge about the written word, literature ranging from Austen to Morrison, and the creative writing process as well as the academic writing process. With that degree I received a certificate in Professional Writing that proves I am competent in the process of technical writing.
I have a lot of knowledge and experience to share and use to assist with anyone willing to reach out, so please feel free to contact me! I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At my current job (Elementary ELL Instructional Assistant), I work with kiddos that are beginning readers as well as students who are having trouble reading. I implement a curriculum that is phonics based and works to break down the elements of reading for student success. I believe I am qualified to tutor in this category because I know the elements of reading and I can break down the elements to teach for successful reading.
I played fastpitch softball for seven years (age 10 to 17). I was a pitcher with eight different movement pitches. My high school team won the state championship for the first time in the school's history during my senior year playing. I also played tournament softball for 5 of my 7 years playing.
I have been coaching fastpitch pitching for the last three years. I work with girls ranging from beginners to high schoolers. I absolutely love teaching pitching and seeing my students grow more confident in their abilities.
