About Ronald

As a 29-year old graduate student of structural engineering at the University of Washington, I am highly enthusiastic about math, science and engineering. I am moderately experienced in both formal and informal tutoring. Specific subjects that I have taught include algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. I am also very fresh on these subjects as I use them frequently as a student.

My approach to tutoring is value-based, meaning that my goal with each student is to maximize the improvement of his or her grades for the time I spend with him or her. I do this by keeping track of homework and test scores, and taking time prior to each session to calibrate my teaching strategy.

I am very patient with those who struggle with math and science as it took me a very long time to achieve the level of academic success that I have now, which includes earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a GPA of 3.63 in 2011, and currently maintaining a GPA above 3.0 in my graduate engineering program. This all started when I began taking elementary algebra at a community college in late 2005.

I have used techniques which research has proven to improve learning and retention. Specific techniques include active recall, lecture note consolidation, and spaced repetition. I will also take time to observe the student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles and improve my tutoring in each upcoming session based on this feedback.

I am generally available for tutoring all times Monday through Sunday. After September 28, 2016, I am available after 12 pm. Feel free to contact me anytime. I am more than happy to help you achieve academic success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
