About Mitch

The primary focus of my professional career has been consumer service. In this capacity, I have had the opportunity to teach, to facilitate classes, and to mentor coworkers, employees, and students of all ages.

I spent over 20 years at Nintendo of America as a consumer service representative. My primary duties were to correspond with consumers via letter and email. I was also a class facilitator and mentor. In these roles, I was able to pass along my knowledge and experience to employees and coworkers.

For the past ten years, I’ve worked for H&R Block as a Tax Accountant. I’ve been fortunate to teach many tax classes and mentor employees. Many of the employees I have taught and mentored are still working for H&R Block as preparers and accountants.

Why do I enjoy teaching? Teaching allows me to pass along my knowledge and experiences. But the best part, what gives me the most enjoyment, is when my students demonstrate their understanding and can apply their newly-found knowledge.

As a professional, interpersonal communication, in all its various forms, is a requirement to be successful. This is a skill I utilize when performing my teaching and mentoring duties. It is also a skill I pass on to my students.

I would be more than happy to assist you with your studies. Please contact me at your convenience. All my best to you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

In addition to taking basic mathematics in elementary school, I decided early on to take as much math in high school as possible. This included the following:

Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2
Trigonometry
Matrix Algebra
Analytical Geometry

I wanted take Calculus concurrently with Analytical Geometry but the request was denied, as it would have violated academic rules of the high school.

During my Accounting education, I took Statistics and Business Math. I use math every day, as it is a part of my profession as an Accountant.

I hope you find this information informative.

English

Having over 25 years experience writing, proofing, and editing email and letter correspondence, I am able to draw on these skills and pass them on in a tutoring atmosphere.

To qualify for this position, I was required to take and pass a written examination prepared by the University of Washington English Department. Very few representatives were able to pass this examination.

From writing and editing letters, I moved on to email correspondence and, ultimately, to writing and editing corporate databases. Form, grammar, syntax, and originality were integral parts of all company correspondence and databases.

I am a Tax Accountant by trade, and this requires constant written communication with clients, coworkers and management. Additionally, I provide audit services to my clients and I practice before the Internal Revenue Service. Client and IRS correspondence require extreme precision and clarity, two traits in which I excel. IRS case preparation is inherently complicated, so I must approach them with extreme attention to content and detail.

Grammar

I have over 25 years' experience reading, writing, proofing, and editing email and correspondence; I am in a unique position being able to offer these same services in a tutoring atmosphere to students of all ages.

These activities began with my employment with Nintendo of America in 1991. At that time, I was, primarily, a letter writer responding to consumer letters. It began as a project secondary to my primary duties. However, due to my proficiency and skill, it became my primary job at Nintendo, which lasted until 2012.

In addition to my professional duties, I home-schooled our daughter. This allowed her to begin her college career. She has since gone on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in English. My home-schooling experience provides me with a valuable skill set for my tutoring activities.

I hope you find this information useful.
