Northwest University (Business Leadership)
Teaching and Music are my greatest passions in life. The opportunity to help students of all ages love music the way that I do is truly an honor.
I was born and raised in Central Florida, just north of Tampa. I began playing Saxophone in 4th grade. By the time I was in 7th grade I was in the top music ensemble at my school and the lead alto in our jazz band. By high school, I was the principle alto player from 10th-12th Grade. I was selected to the All-County Honors Band all four years, the All-State Honors Band three times and the Tri-State Honors Band (Florida, Georgia and Alabama) once. I was also the featured soloist in our jazz ensemble. I had the opportunity to perform at music festivals New Orleans, LA; Gatlinburg, TN; Washington, DC; and all over Florida. I also taught myself to play rudimentary percussion because I wanted to be in a Drum and Bugle Corps and saxes weren't allowed in those groups. After practicing for two years, I toured with a Drum Corps International corps for two summers. In addition to playing, I was also my school's student conductor three times and drum major twice.
After high school, I was granted a scholarship to the Florida State University School of Music. After studying briefly at FSU, I joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a member of the Marine Corps Music Program. I performed as a member of the Parris Island Marine Band. After September 11, 2001, I transitioned out of the music program but continued to serve in the Marines until 2011. While I was no longer playing professionally, my love of music and teaching has never diminished. After working in the corporate world for several years, I have recently gone back to college to pursue my teaching degree so I can finally fulfill my lifelong dream of teaching young people.
I have taught private lessons and group lessons on drums and percussion; marching drumline; indoor percussion ensemble; marching band and small ensembles. I would love to help however I can for you and your band.
During my career in the Marines, I developed a deep love for History and Political Science. I studied both extensively in college and would love to help you grasp historical knowledge or help you grow your love for the U.S. political process.
Music is my life. While I am no longer playing as much as I once was, my love for music and teaching are every bit as strong as they ever have been. My teaching methods and techniques will help you excel beyond your fellow students and achieve the goals you set for yourself. Now that my kids are in middle school, I have a young saxophone player and flute player living at home. Both have excelled in their short time playing, and I'd love to help you the way I have helped them.
Please feel free to contact me to set up a time to meet me in person and see if I'm a good fit for you. I would be honored to be part of your musical journey. Nothing in my life has brought me more fulfillment than music. I fully believe you'll fell the same way, too. Teaching and Music are my greatest passions in life. The opportunity to help students of all ages love music the way that I do is truly an honor.
