Hello prospective learners of English as a Second Language. I am currently a Graduate Student at City Seattle University working to complete my Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language or TESL. I have been a teacher in the United States Air Force for 21 years and I am recently honorably retired in 2011. I love teaching various subjects other than TESL such as History, Political Science, Social Studies which are mostly in the field of Humanities.
My tutoring/teaching method:
- As a tutor I must provide expertise, experience, and encouragement.
- Clearly establish expectations for the learner.
- Keep and follow a consistent set of rules.
- I must have a clear idea of my own strengths and limitations.
- Know the learner.
- I must build confidence and trust with the learner.
- Listen closely to work out the real problem.
- Use questions to enhance problem solving.
- Demonstrate or model similar processes with linguistic acquisition
These are just some of my basic principles of teaching that I adhere as a tutor/teacher.
