Hello there! My name is Areen, and I am going into my senior year at UW as a Materials Science & Engineering major. I enjoy tutoring people in math and sciences. As a youth, I empathize and understand the struggles of school and put my best effort into making math and science enjoyable and understandable subjects. Hello there! My name is Areen, and I am going into my senior year at UW as a Materials Science & Engineering major. I enjoy tutoring people in math and sciences. As a youth, I empathize and understand the struggles of school and put my best effort into making math and science enjoyable and understandable subjects. I have tutored other college students, high schoolers, and middle schoolers in these subjects for six years.

My tutoring methods:

For tutoring math, I tend to do a problem for my mentee, explaining them step-by-step the processes I am going through to get the answer, and then create a new problem that demonstrates the same concepts and let them solve it independently. If the process in getting the answer is rather lengthy, I would ask if they followed along with me to make sure they are not lost. I would then check their work and we would continue working through problems. I am fairly quick, yet thorough, at explaining math concepts, so this process usually takes about 1-3 minutes per problem.

For tutoring physics, biology, and chemistry, I tend to simplify scientific processes into comprehensible, bread and butter steps and let my mentee internalize that information however they want. When it comes to a lab write-up, I tend to spend a few moments comprehending the question and data presented and then ask my mentee about what confuses them and answer their question(s). I usually have a computer at hand and highly encourage mentees to have something, whether it is a textbook or online material, to reference to when asking me science questions.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have passed this class with A's both semesters in 8th grade. I am currently an AP calculus student and use skills from algebra on a day-to-day basis. I also explain algebra concepts clearly to students who would like to learn them.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have passed this class with A's both semesters during my sophomore year. I use skills from Algebra 2 in my AP Calculus class, applying my mastery of that class to the math I am currently learning. I also help clearly elaborate on Algebra 2 concepts that may, at first, be incomprehensible for a student, like the quadratic formula.
Biology,

Biology

I have received an A first semester of biology and a B second semester of biology during my sophomore year. I have a strong passion for this subject and really enjoy explaining biological processes to others in a concise and comprehensible manner. I am currently in AP Biology and apply regular biology concepts to my work in that class. I have also been selected as the Washington State representative for attending the National Academy of Future Physicians on November 14, 2014.
