About Randall

I have 15 years of teaching experience at the secondary AND collegiate level, so I know how to prepare students at the grade they are at as well as for their future. Statistics is a personal favorite, and specialty of mine, but I have taught algebra and geometry more than any other subjects. I am passionate about math and education so I attend more professional development opportunities than anyone else in the state. I am known for infusing lessons with: humor, cultural and historical connections, and real-life applications. Math SHOULD be the easiest subject to learn, but I am unfortunately all too aware of how difficult some of the books, teachers, and schools out there make it for their students. No matter who I have worked with, I have always had success building the attitude and aptitude of my pupils. In other words, they gain confidence and competence in their procedural skills and conceptual understanding while having fun doing so. I look forward to helping as many students as possible reach their full potential. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

With eighteen years of math teaching experience under my belt, I can honestly say that Algebra 2 is the class I have taught more than any other. I have ways to boost conceptual understanding along with procedural fluency that I know most teachers, unfortunately, do not use for their students. In other words, I know how difficult the subject can be...but it does not have to!

Statistics

Twelve years ago, I was the first one to bring Statistics to my school district by piloting an AP Stats course. Since then, I have taught it on a regular basis. At high school, I specifically recruit students who have not always done well with the traditional math curriculum; and at college, I advertise the importance of stats in today's quantitative world and retain students through both Introductory and Advanced Statistics.
