Hola! I am a retired Spanish teacher with a certification in World Language and 28+ years of education experience. I teach all levels of Spanish from crash courses to advanced literature. I am an expert and have experience in teaching students from grades K-12. I have spent many years teaching bilingual classes and have spent the last 16 years teaching high schools students. I also have years of experience with teaching special education students. My methodology is based on the student's interests and I encourage my students to participate in shaping their learning experience. My lessons also touch upon history, geography and cultures of Latin American countries.
During my teaching career I maintained my certification with a variety of trainings specifically designed for the teaching career such as reading and writing, computer classes and various others. After my bachelor's degree, I continued developing my education skills and I spent two semesters at San Fernando University Cadiz in Spain and one year at Depaul University of Chicago, where I took classes focused on bringing together advanced Spanish with business.
I believe I have excellent skills in Spanish; it is my native language and I enjoy teaching it. I want to continue transferring my knowledge to anyone who desires to learn a new language. Over the last 3 years, I have tutored many students at different levels. For example, I have taught high school students immediately improve their grades and have gotten great reviews. I also have tutored adults who want to learn Spanish to help them in their travel plans or to learn to speak Spanish for their work environments. I am highly effective, reliable and ready to help you! Gracias/thank you for your consideration. Hola! I recommend Edelmira to anyone looking for a Spanish Tutor. Her excellent teaching skills along with her knowledge of Spanish is a great combination for any student. She is patient, punctual and pleasant to deal with.
Edelmira asked me questions in regards to my Spanish Language goals and began to assess my capabilities. I am not new to the language and desire to increase my proficiency to attain fluency. Edelmira would speak primarily Spanish to me and if I did not understand a word phrase she would explain not only the meaning but also the reasoning behind the word of phrase. She also had me read through several written conversations and I learned numerous new words. Most of all, Edelmira is patient and very willing to help me learn the language.
She is flexible in adapting lessons and offers her expertise to guide the learning experience. She was very helpful practicing conversation.
She is very patient with a good sense of humor, as well as instructive in not only the language but the culture.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The Spanish that I teach is Standard Spanish. I teach reading, writing, listening comprehension and verbal communication skills a any level. I do target the students' needs first, and from there I develop the lessons. I give my students an informal quiz in order to evaluate the progress or understanding of the lessons.
