I am a retired Spanish teacher with a certification in World Language and 28+ years of education experience. I teach all levels of Spanish from “survival” crash courses to advanced literature. My experience includes teaching students from grades K-12. I’ve spent many years teaching bilingual classes and have spent the last 16 years teaching high schools students. I also have years of experience with teaching special education students. My methodology is based on the student’s interests and I encourage my students to participate in shaping their learning experience. My lessons also touch upon history, geography and cultures of Latin American countries.
During my teaching career I maintained my certification with a variety of training specifically designed for the teaching career such as reading and writing, computer classes and various others. My education highlights include spending two semesters at San Fernando University Cadiz in Spain where I took Advance Spanish classes and Business and I also completed one year of Spanish and Business at De Paul University of Chicago.
My teaching career highlights include sponsoring the Spanish Club at my high school. It brought me a lot of experience working with the young adults. The Spanish Club learned how to dance Tango along with other Latin American dances. They also wrote a play based on "Don Quijote” which they performed for their fellow classmates and for various organizations for the elderly and other community events.
I believe I have excellent skills in Spanish; it is my native language and I enjoy teaching it. I want to continue transferring my knowledge to anyone who desires to learn a new language. I hope that I can help students in the near future. Thank you for your consideration. I am a retired Spanish teacher with a certification in World Language and 28+ years of education experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The Spanish that I teach is Standard Spanish. I teach reading, writing, listening comprehension and verbal communication skills a any level. I do target the students' needs first, and from there I develop the lessons. I give my students an informal quiz in order to evaluate the progress or understanding of the lessons.
