University of Washington, Seattle, Washington
As a tutor who has been working in the Seattle area for over five years, it has been a great pleasure to get to know each one of my students personally, and to see them gain confidence in their ability to learn. Every student has different learning styles and different motivations for learning, and I work hard in my tutoring sessions to discover which methods will be most effective and engaging. Academically, this involves:
Breaking down new material into manageable concepts that build on a student's current foundation of knowledge
Using a student's personal interests (in sports, music, etc..) to help motivate learning and memory retention
Testing at each session to make sure material is being retained
Collaborating with parents to set goals and reward students for their progress
On a personal level, I combine patience, encouragement and discipline to motivate my students to reach their highest potential. Sometimes this involves helping them overcome self-defeating thoughts in order to make progress; other times, it involves helping them see the benefits of going beyond the basics of what is expected. Either way, I always aim to show my students that learning can be a fun and enjoyable experience, and that are able to meet whatever challenges come their way. Hello,

Annalisa provides suggestions and alternative ways to improve wording in the paper that aids
in the flow and organization. She is skilled and talented.
Annalisa has been a wonderful help to my Sophomore student. He needed help with essay writing, reading comprehension and grammar. She is working with him to develop his skills in each of these areas. She has put in a lot of time with him and they are working great together. She has been extremely flexible around the due dates of his essay, his school and my work. His grades are improving! We are so glad to have found Annalisa!
I really appreciate all Annalisa has done. She is quite a nice and patient tutor. Her time schedule is very flexible and I can also work with her through e-mail. Once a time, she even helped me to revise my paper until 3 AM.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked extensively with clients who are applying to a variety of academic degree programs, from BAs to PhDs and MBAs, and focus on helping students write powerful admissions essays and statements of purpose tailored to their chosen colleges and universities. As part of this process, I use an interview and ongoing discussions to help students discover their strengths, accomplishments, and goals. I also assist clients with: researching each school's academic culture, program curricula, and research opportunities. Deciding which programs best align with their passions, learning style, and long-term goals. Expressing the unique gifts and perspectives they will contribute to the programs to which they choose to apply. Making the application process less stressful by creating schedules for completing each application.
If you are looking for an encouraging, positive college counselor to support your application process, I will be happy to meet with you or set up a free half-hour discussion, to learn about your goals and the kind of assistance you need. I am also available to work virtually using phone and e-mail if meeting is not convenient.
I have over 10 years' experience proofreading many forms of writing, including student essays, research reports, marketing materials, and a published book.
Every document I proofread is guaranteed to have correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, mechanics and formatting (such as MLA, APA, and Chicago style). If you would like additional help with phrasing, organization and content, I'll be glad to work with you either online or in person to edit your paper before proofreading it.
Most of the academic writing I have proofread has been for English, humanities and social sciences courses. I have read and written on many classics that are commonly assigned for literature classes, and am usually able to read the book you are writing about if you let me know a few days ahead of time.
I am also able to help with business papers, science reports, and technical writing, though occasionally I might need clarification about specific terminology.
Creative and Non-Academic Writing:
In addition to school-related work, I have experience proofreading website content, marketing materials, full-length books, creative fiction and other non-fiction writing. These types of documents can have different grammar and punctuation rules--for instance, vernacular language, sentence fragments and "poetic license"--so I focus on making sure that the style choices remain consistent throughout the work.
If you are a student who needs help with learning correct grammar, punctuation, and mechanics, I offer proofreading that includes feedback on the errors you have made in your writing. You can then use my comments to learn to recognize your mistakes, and gain independence and confidence in proofreading your own work. This feedback has been especially helpful to my students who are learning English as a second language.
If you don't require any feedback, I will still keep track my corrections, so that you can review them and ask me questions about the reason I made certain changes.
Thank you for reading about my proofreading services, and I hope to work with you soon!
