I have always wanted to be a teacher and I pursued my dream. I originally wanted to teach History but when I had a chance to travel to Japan to teach English I fell in love with it and never went back. I spent eight and a half years teaching English and training other teachers to become better teachers. I was then transferred to California where I continued to teach and train. I have taught people from all ages and walks of life and the thing that really strikes me is that teaching is not just about the subject but about helping people develop skills that they can use throughout their lives.
I believe that teaching is an art - it requires creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm. I have been teaching for over 25 years but I don't teach the same way as I did when I first started. My style, philosophy, and approach have evolved. I do not believe that just because I received my degree in Education and that I have taken my CELTA certificate that I can't learn more. Teaching is just as much about learning is it is about sharing. Teachers really should be facilitators, mentors, and guides. I enjoy learning from my students and sharing my insights, advice and knowledge with my students. I think the thing I love the most about tutoring is that each person learns in their own way and I can use my experience to help them achieve their goals and go on to be successful in their own way.
I have been teaching speakers of other languages for over 25 years including test prep, grammar, reading, speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary and general English classes. I'm comfortable teaching groups and individuals. My experiences, skills and knowledge will help students improve their skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught IELTS Test Prep as well as TOEFL Test Prep classes for over 10 years. Both tests have similar test elements. I also have attended IELTS and TOEFL test workshops run by authorized test evaluators.
