University of Oregon (Chinese, INT Studies)
Greetings! My name is Jeffrey. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese. (HSK 6, HSKK 6, OPI = SUPERIOR/ILR-3) I graduated from the University of Oregon's Chinese Flagship Program with a double major in Chinese and International Studies. The Flagship Program is a National Security Education Program initiative to produce "global professionals", meaning those who earn their certification and possess 'professional-level proficiency in their Flagship language of choice, advanced cultural skills and experience living and working abroad', among other things. I earned my National Language Flagship Certification in Mandarin Chinese.
I'm an entrepreneur in the travel industry (bringing Chinese to the west coast) and a traveler myself with a passion for languages and people. I spent more than two years in China working, living and studying. I can teach very effectively from a cultural standpoint as well, which is obviously valuable. I am friendly and easy to get along with; the main reason I enjoy languages so much is that I'm a communicator and enjoy talking to people and listening to them in return. I want to make learning fun. I am flexible and we can set up a learning plan with goals that fit how you learn and what types of environments are most conducive to you doing so. Greetings! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my National Language Flagship Certification in Mandarin Chinese. I am rated HSK 6, HSKK 6, and OPI Superior (ILR-3). I graduated from the Chinese Flagship Program as a Chinese Flagship Scholar. I have spent more than two years in China working, living and studying. I do not have a foreign accent in Chinese, (or what would sound foreign to a native speaker) which is to say that I have mastered speaking with a "standard" Chinese accent. My tones are my biggest strength. I know this is the area most students struggle with the most.
