About Devon

Hey everyone! My name is Devon and I am an electronic music producer and DJ. I am 23 years old with a B.A in broadcast production from Washington State University.

I found a love for tutoring during collaborations with other artists. In a field as extensive as this you are bound to come across talented people that still don't know how to do something as well as you. Teaching for me works two-fold because as you learn I also get the opportunity to refine my skills and potentially learn new things.

As someone who aspires to be a big-time professional producer in the future I am always looking for ways to hone my craft and few endeavors can match tutoring. Not only because of the benefits mentioned earlier but also because of the fact that I get to teach what I love and help spread the beauty of music!

I specialize in several different types of house music (Big-Room, Tropical, Progressive, Deep/Future, etc.) but I have a vast knowledge of other types of music and I continue to add to my repertoire every day. I have over 1500 logged hours in the studio and I have extensively studied synthesis (Sound Design), song structure, songwriting, music theory, mixing theory and mastering.

My main Digital Audio Workstation or "DAW" for short, is the Ableton Live 9 Suite. I will be able to teach you various cornerstones of music production such as equalization, compression, building your own sounds, how to use effects (i.e. reverbs, delays, saturation, filters), building a track from the ground up, and more! Also, the fundamentals of the creative process like the importance of finishing all of your work, goal setting, and proper practice habits.

Producers and musicians just starting out will find my tutoring most effective but I'm confident that veterans can pick up great tips from me as well. I work best when my students set the pace they would like to learn at. If you already know one of the basics, we move on. No wasting time here!

Feel free to contact me anytime for questions or concerns and I will respond in a timely manner.

I look forward to working with all of you very soon!

Composition (Music),
General Music,
Music Theory

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have been composing my own productions for 2 years with over 1500 hours logged in the studio during this time. I have researched many composition types including but not limited to house music, dubstep, drum and bass, pop and even classical. Composition is not just something you can learn by reading or watching tutorial videos. It is a skill that needs to be honed in the studio over and over again.

I will be able to show students fully realized compositions that I have created and how they can take an idea and turn it into a full track.

General Music

I have made music my life over the last 2 years. I have thoroughly researched and applied music theory, song structure, song writing, releasing my own music etc. I have taken many university level courses on music including music composition, piano and music history.

I myself played 4 years of trumpet and 2 years of piano. I am a subscriber to many music teachers online that have broadened my skills immensely but now I feel it is my time to help young music producers.
