Bio

Hello! I'm Elizabeth, a wife and mother to 5 children! I am also a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a Korean linguist for 3.5 years before returning to school to finish my Bachelor's degree. I attended the Defense Language Institute (DLI) for two years and received an Associate’s Degree in Korean. I graduated in the top 10 percent of my class with a 3.6 GPA, which is not easily attainable at the DLI. I also led the Korean school's tutoring program, overseeing approximately 10 other tutors...

I also led the Korean school's tutoring program, overseeing approximately 10 other tutors and 30 students during my studies.

I studied Spanish extensively in high school, have experience with the Spanish AP (scored a 4) and subject SAT test (620), and continued my studies in college. Before going to college, I worked as an au pair in Spain during the summer and taught English to a family's 4-year-old girl. At school, I first majored in Music, then switched to Philosophy and Humanities after joining the military. When I returned to school post-military, I started at Columbia University's philosophy program. I was also blessed to attend Columbia's writing course with Emily Hunt-Kivel, published writer and teacher!

I am now currently pursuing a Philosophy MA at Biola University, in which biblical studies and interpretation are a key part of the core curriculum. I am happy to help with those studies as well, even if they are extracurricular!

I’m looking forward to working with you! I love learning and helping my children with their studies--I look forward to helping you as well. I love how each child learns differently, and has their own 'aha' moments. One child might understand something visually, while the other might need to do it dozens of times before it makes sense. Of course, we adults are the same way! I all learners equally and will dedicate all that I am able to help!

I attended a rigorous, intensive Korean program at the DLI in Monterey, CA, and graduated with an AA in Korean as well as a 3.6 GPA. I have extensive experience translating Korean and am still pursuing currency in the language through DOD-supported online classes. I have the unique perspective of a foreigner learning Korean, which would make me a great tutor to a beginner especially. However, I have enough experience to tutor someone who wants to greatly improve his or her language ability as well.
