Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am highly qualified to tutor with students who have ADD or ADHD. I have a degree in special education and have worked with numerous students that have ADD/ADHD both as a tutor and as a classroom teacher. I teach them ways to focus and concentrate on the task at hand and also how to make education and learning a priority in their lives.

ASVAB

I have helped various students prepare for that ASVAB. I have also worked with numerous students in getting them ready to take test by preparing them in the area of mathematics and reading. After this preparation they have successfully passed their test.

Autism

Not only have I taught courses to students at the university level about autism, but I have worked with numerous students as a one to one tutor. I have tutored many students on the autism spectrum, specifically students with Asperger's Syndrome. I have a degree in special education.

Dyslexia

I am highly skilled to work with children with dyslexia. I have a massive secrete in special-education and have worked with children with dyslexia both in the school system and on my own as a private tutor. I realize that this diagnosis is both stressful and difficult for the child and the family and I work to help support them through this process. I use various techniques to help the child not only learn how to read but to feel more confident as a learner.

Elementary (K-6th)

Not only have a been elementary classroom teacher for over 10 years, I have tutored many students that are of elementary age. I have worked with them in all subject areas and I'm highly skilled at teaching children how to read, write, spell and do mathematical calculations. I am patient and kind, but firm, and my students enjoy working with me while they gain knowledge and skills.

ISEE

I have tutored many students to prepare them for the ISEE exam. This is the most common exam that is required to attend the private schools in this area. I also help them write a good essay which can improve their essay writing skills. Most of my students have been accepted at their choice of private school.

Phonics

Not only have I taught phonics based reading to first and second graders as a teacher in a public school setting, but as a tutor I have taught many students to read. These have ranged from four year olds who are advanced in reading to middle school students who have never quite learned how to use phonics to sound out words.

Reading

I have been a teacher for over 30 years. I have helped many students learn how to read by utilizing phonics, literature and by helping them develop a love for reading. I am well-versed in both the Slingerland and the Wilson reading programs and have developed many tools to help students who are learning disabled in reading. I also work with gifted readers were well ahead of their peers and want to read at a higher level.

Study Skills

Many of the students that I tutor are bright but have difficulty keeping track of their assignments. They also miss assignments due to disorganization. I do backpack, organization, check student's grades and teach them organization. I also teach test taking skills and how to study and use their time wisely.
